Freshmen descend on the campus . . . as DePauw begins another year For a few Heeting moments in the Fall, Greencastle became alive as DePauw opened its doors wide to engulf the Class of 1967. tThe Classes 0f1964, 1965 and 1966 had to unlock the doors and sweep out the place several days beforej Apprehensive but wide-eyed freshmen and their parents lugged racks of dresses, stacks of records and in- numerable trunks, books and hair-dryers to the upper Hoors. Rushees unloaded hhout-in- townh and were a little bit more subdued. But the frosh womenethe umpteenth con- secutive hhcutest freshman Class ever7'e screamed at their newfound friends and wept in unison as their parents drove away.They were on their own now, so they squared their shoulders, straightened their tie, ironed their dress, crossed their fingers and set out to see What college was all about. Orientation and testing . . . competed for the freshmen's time GREAT MINDSeFreshman pack Bowman Gym to discover what they know-or doxft. THE THINKFAReThis weary freshman seems ab- sorbed in utter concentration, or could it be sleep? The first week of. college-hectic days filled with the battery of placement tests in psychology, philosophy, physiology and geology meetings with faculty counselors to plan schedules . . . orienta- tion group meetings to explain the whys and wherefores of DePauw; the owl and the boulder, the Deans, the lost and gone and the here and coming traditions, the heterosexual relationship called dating, and the supremacy of the printed pages meetings and more meetings AVVS big sisters . . . SILENCE . . . 702 new frosh promoting the Image, and being caught at it . . . questioning and acceptance . . . meeting the girls on the floor, new Friends . . . adjustment more meetings rush .. . tiredness and joy and skepticism and orientation 1-; 1066 or 1072?-Dave Bishop turns his mind back to Staffers and dorm Stag ' ' ' neutrality ' ' ' far away matters like sophomore history. . , , and no sleep. But When it,s all over, college finally begins.
