For the past four years most of us have been forced to balance the routine and frustration of everyday existence with the distracting appeal of leisurely activities. . m...4x..w,m, M M, , . , ., -M-M H...,, -l.4.h., y! - . .7 ,7 . 7 , m 7 77777-. It is four years of learning, growing, and developing yourself as a person rather than simply developing a profession. Iv mm: or MIC? It is a process, and one we must all go through. Striving for things just out of our reach even though recognition doesn't come often. Very few leave with the same aspirations and desires that they began with. Over the years they are defined, refined, altered or rejected. To do otherwise would deny the changing aspect of the human spirit. College becomes more than the quest for a degree or the perfect GPA, it becomes the place where people meet... ...bcgin friendships, telationships and romances, it is the place where many of us become aware of entering the real world and... IIIlI-I. .I.u $1 , ...through these friendships and with the aid of education, prepare to take our place in it. It is a time of infinite promise, of a future yet to be lived and of our insatiable ability to dream. E Not an altogether bad way to spend four years. Or five or six as the case may be. 25 Glory. DePaul students .. witnessed the descending shades $1011.. of success and were exposed to - 4 instruments of commercial man: lights, cameras, microphones, money ... 27 But behind the illusions remains the solitary athlete who exerts, strives... g; . x $N N L $3 WA 3 The expense of spirit and effort builds a team and raises hopes. Entwined with the players are thousands of fans who invest energy of their own, anticipating what they themselves cannotreach. x At moments when athletes grasp greatness the shades dissolve. Glory is glory, success is success, the struggle is forgotten. When events slip beyond control success fades and the conflict becomes prominent. Players, fans, and coaches grasp empty air and ask, How could it be happening to us? i g E Defeat. Disappointment. Shock. This year the men's basketball team encapsulated this universal feeling. The dream team came down to earth on one shot, one point, and a few seconds. But this also is an integral part of all sports. DePaul had it all in sports this year: highs, lows, popularity, neglect, routs, upsets. To those athletes who persevered in quiet determination: success is not measured by victories of numbers, but by the strength and character of each individual. That is the essence of sports. Rev.
