Their season record was twenty-one wins and eleven defeats. During the league season they came through with an ll and 5 record entitling them for a berth in the playoffs. The Demons were listed as the underdogs when they were to play St. Elizabeth, but the team romped over Elizabeth, 70 to 59, being in charge during the most part of the game. In the semifinals De Paul, again nominated for the underdog spot, came through with a stunning victory over St. Phillip, North Section Champs, by beating them 65 to 64 in the last seven seconds of the game. Coming into the Catholic League finals, De Paul was to play Loyola, South Section Champs, for the crown and were the underdog for the third successive time because of Loyola's towering height with the average of 6 3 per man The Demons small compared to Loyola completely outplayed the Ramblers and beat them 62 to 59 in the last few seconds of the game after the scoring lead changed hands many times De Paul highly underrated had the Catholic Senior League Crown captured De Paul after playing three terrific teams finally gave way and was defeated by Marshall Public League Champs 71 to 53 for the City League honors and had to settle for second in the city It must be remembered that the Demons came this far mostly with juniors on their team and the only graduates will be Tom Meier and jim Rouzan With this to look forward to the Demons should have an excellent season next year and our best wishes to them i NYU! Statues were awarded to the first-place winners in each division, and the runners-up were given trophies. The seniors proved to be extremely tough to their opposition, as they scored thirty-one points and captured the team title. This year, the freshmen were not to be looked down upon as they took second class with twenty-two points. The sophomores with nineteen points, and the juniors with eight in that order, completed the card. The main purpose of the club is to establish good sportsmanship in the athletic field. This club, of the many at De Paul, is the hardest to qualify for. The student must have earned a major letter in one of the various sports such as basketball, football, track. cross country, and swimming. The Monogram Club holds an annual dance and sponsors the Football team verses Faculty basketball game-both of which were great successes this year. Some of their many duties are: ushering at the basketball games, selling refreshments and programs at the games, and supervising the pep rallies. Also toward the end of the year a banquet is held in their honor which, again this year, was highly enjoyed by all those present. The best wishes to the club and its members in the coming years. MCCABE, Moderator One of the most active and fulfilling clubs in De Paul has been that of the Camera Club. Throughout the years it has, time and time again, supplied the need for pictures for the Prep, the Annual, and the students in general. The membership is made up of students who have learned the art of taking pictures, developing and enlarging hlm, not to mention all of the other aspects of photography. These things have all been taught through the able leadership of Mr. McCabe, whose mastery and skill continues to arouse the student's interest in this field. The meetings are frequent and the visits to the darkroom even more frequent. The Camera Club continues to grow in popularity. First Row: Sobeck, Pierce, Loss, Mr. McCabe, Gronck, Lathrop. FALZONE, Moderator RICHARD MERCZAK, President RAY GERMANN, Vice President WILLIAM MALLEK, Secretary JOHN CANNON, Treasurer Members of the Science Club. This was the first year of the Science Club here at De Paul, but it will be hard to surpass its success in the following years. The Club is indebted to Mr. Falzone, for through his untiring efforts the Club has become one of the largest, most informative clubs at the acadamy. The Science Club is a member of The Science Clubs of America Association, and the members have cards attesting this fact. Iiarly in the year the club won an award for having the most interesting display at the parent-teachers meeting. One of the highlights of the year was the trip to Baxter Laboratories. The trip was enjoyed in no small measure by everyone. The mem- bers had an insight as to how many of their drugs were prepared. packed, and handled. Probably the most enjoyable part of the whole year was the trip to the Ford Plant. It is of course, impossible to explain the many wonders of science put to work there, but that day will not be forgotten by any of those who took the trip. The Science Club should be a must for those who have even a passive interest in any branch of the physical sciences. The various demonstrations held regularly at the meetings. explain some of the most interesting principles of science. or some everyday phenomena. y 4 7 Student collectors for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is the only organization in which every student may partici- pate. ln fact every good Catholic should participate in this organization. which endeavors to promulgate the Catholic Faith. The duty of the Society at De Paul is to support the functions of the Propagation with prayers and contributions. The collections are taken every Monday morning. and this year the drive broke all records. During the last part of the year the collections were directed toward the Vincentian Missionaries Society. The success of the drive can be attributed to the line spirit of the student body. However the needed stimulus was produced by Father FitzGerald. the moderator. The students of De Paul have been thanked many times by the archdiocesan headquarters in Chicago. PARROTT, Moderator It is a spiritual service as well as a tradition at De Paul academy to have the entire student body attend Mass every Friday morning at 9 o'clock. This being an academy affair, it is only fitting that academy students assist at Mass as altar boys. Numrous short trips were taken to local yards, car shops, etc., but the high point of the season was the Fouth Annual Railroad Ramble, which this year carried the organization to points of interest in St. Louis, Missouri. It may be added that this was the longest trip in the club's history. further proof of its growing popularity. l07 108 I REV JOHN RICHARDSON CM Dean De Paul Gradune School 'quash REV PHILIP LE FEVRE CM Nlce Presldent De Paul Unnerslty This year the annual De Paul academy Retreat was held just before the Christmas Holidays. Father Rich- ardson and Father LeFevre conducted the underclass- men and upperclassmen respectively. The time at which the retreat was held was especially fortunate. it being the last days of Advent. The customary Mass and Communion on all three mornings. started the day in the right spirit and attitude. Many students received Communion on the three mornings. Conferences and prayers complimented the day. The students conducted themselves in the finest traditions of Catholic Fducation. Father Richardson is the Dean of the De Paul University Graduate School. Father LeFevre is the Vice President of the Student Personnel Services at the University.
