Even though the girls only won one varsity game, they never lost their enthusiasm. Coach Fitzgerald never gave up on her team even when the going was rough. The girl ' s team learned a lot this year through the rough times and looks very promising in the years to come. STATISTICIANS — Collette Worthey, Jennifer Wachob, and Suzie Gregory. All in all it was a great, great year!! The yearbook staff attended a yearbook seminar at EIU in the Spring. There we received an award for the 1 981 82 yearbook cover. We were all very pleased and proud. Also a special thanks to Mrs. Blackburn our sponsor, Joni Brian our Treasurer, and Sherri Baker our editor. During the summer, the band traveled out east to the Philadelphia, Penn, and Washington, D.C. Independence Day parades. The American Flag Squad, consisting of Pat Palmer, Dean Hoffman, Ken West, and Rob Walters, won 1st place in the Philadelphia parade. In the Washington parade, the band won a 3rd place trophy in class A. The Eagles won over many bands much larger than D-W. With memories from the summer and a few new members, the Eagles competed in Western ' s 1st Annual Marching Band Competition. Again, the band placed above much larger bands in their class receiving a 3rd in class A. The second competition was at the U. of I. Here, the band received a 2nd in class D for field show. Other awards for show competition were 1st place — Flags, 2nd place — Percussion, and 3rd place — Drum Major in class D. In parade, the Flags and Drum Major both received 3rd in class D. The final competition and highlight of the season was at I.S.U. The Eagles placed 1st in class D over a band twice their size. Also, the percussion and Drum Major received 1st place awards in class D. The Flags were awarded with a 2nd place in class D. The band kept busy through the rest of the year with solo and ensemble and organizational contest. In the spring, some members participated in the S.V.C. Honor Band held at F air bury Cropsey.
