1980-81 2 Individualism ... As one of a crowd or one of a pair you take your place in the rank and file of humanity. You stand among many as an individual . . . uni- que, rare, and beautiful. Camera, film, click, flash, 2 weeks,?? picture, work, work, work, yearbook, — memories. As you turn through the pages in your yearbook, you will see yourself and reflections of some of the greatest times of your life. A lot of work has been put into your yearbook. Its life began in a yearbook meeting in September of 1980. All through the year, staff members collected ideas and pictures, and your book started to grow — not only physically, it grew love too. It matured and expanded, now it is as you see it, a fully developed yearbook. We hope you will enjoy your yearbook as much as we enjoyed making it. KODAK — for a good look — we owe you many thanks for our theme this year. ENJOY! 3 Mindy Scott Accepts Editor’s Job This past year the yearbook staff has kept very busy selling yearbook ads and selling candy bars. They began last summer with a marching band camp. The camp proved to be a success because the Band again won the Class D State Championship at I.S.U. and Class D at E.I.U. Most band members feel that the highlight of the marching season was to come within V2 of a point of being one of ten finalists at the I.S.U. competi- tion. That is the closest a class D band has ever come to making finals. Each band member also participated in the solo and ensemble contest at Millikin University. The band traveled to Millikin once again to compete in the organizational contest. Some of the upper class band members partici- pated in the E.I.U. Honor Band. Also held this year was the S.V.C. Honor Band. Several of the stu- dents took part in this. The pep band also did very well this year. They once again played on D-W night at Parkland, and they also played at the Assembly Hall for the Girls’ State Tournament. Congratulations to the band on a great year and good luck for next year! Pep Band 15 Chorus Goes “Over the Rainbow” The Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Karen Parrish, had a successful year regard- less of its size. Performances were given at the Christmas Concert and the Spring Con- cert. The Swing Choir was also featured at these events. Three members of the Chorus participated in the IMEA District Chorus on Nov. 15 at Crannert Center. Also chorus members par- ticipated in solo and ensemble contest held at Millikin University on March 7. Ten first place ratings were received. The Wizard of Oz was the musical pre- sented on April 4. The audience was taken over the rainbow by Dorothy. Advisory Council: Lisa Edwards, Beth Baker, Tracey Larson, Kim Fisher, and Ann Edwards. Even though they suffered through 22 losses throughout the season, the Eagles gained valuable ex- perience in teamwork and good sportsmanship when they defeated Wapella, the undefeated team in the Eagle Classic. Although the Eagles’ record was not very im- pressive, they showed real hustle and hard work in achieving the goals they set at the start of the season. Chris Hall, Don Blankenship. Seniors Anxiously Await Graduation President, Jim Reynolds; Vice-President, Mike Marcum; Secretary, Tracy Norton; Treasurer, Butch Carter; Student Council Rep., Mindy Scott; Sponsors: Mr. Frazier, Mrs. Blackburn, and Miss Tuttle Our senior class has worked and played hard together. We have shared endless hours in each other’s presence. This year we sold popcorn, got mud- dy at a truck wash, sold pop at each home ballgame, and played chef for two chicken din- ners — all for a trip to Washington. We hope to make our trip to Washington mean- ingful as well as educational. It was difficult for our class to accept many of the changes this year. However, we hope that succeeding classes will ac- cept and uphold changes as well as we have done. Upon graduation, we are sure to feel bewildered but yet ready to face reality. As we push the big glass doors open for the last time on graduation, each of us will reflect our past four years at D-W with laughter and tears. 52 Yumi Sakai, Our AFS Student From Japan Kim Fisher and her family have been Yumi’s family this school year. Yumi was active in volleyball, basket- ball, and participated in many other activities.
