Can you have ' em ready? Is Miss Borys or Mrs. Blackburn staying after today? When’s Mr. McCandless coming? We need more pic- tures! -- just a sample of those often asked questions that harassed our sponsors and photo- graphers. Without Miss Borys and Mrs. Black- burn and their exhaustless patience we would never have made it. They pitched right in to help meet deadlines. We greatly appreciate their time and effort. Dave and Mr. McCandless are responsible for the photos-- shooting and developing them. Dave, you endured our bossiness, our demands for pictures on short notice, and those countless trips to Champaign. Mr. McCandless, thanks for coming clear out here for pictures, for lending us equip- ment, and, of course, for teaching Dave the ins and outs of the photo trade. We have these people to thank especially for this yearbook. Thanks again! The graduating class of 1974 would like to extend our grati- tude to the senior class officers and sponsors. Many a meet- ing has been spent with Miss Borys almost losing her head, Mr. Sarlo calmly roaring at the class, and Mr. Lenz silently bowing his head for a few minutes of meditation after being confronted with one of the many problems that the senior class has such a knack for getting into. Due to the ambition of the Lettermen, D-W has been blest with a new animal -- The Spartacus. Many groans and grunts have been heard coming from the weight room as the students and people of the communities have endeavored to improve their various shapes. Thanks to many people, we can all enjoy this equipment. BA TTLING FOR THE POP MA CHINE Although Student Council has had a very inactive year, they rose from their slumber long enough to battle for the blessed pop machine. Blood ran thick as soda when the pop and candy were locked up in the storage room. Appeals were sent up to higher authorities as students promised to throw away their pop cans and candy wrappers. A week of probation was set and the machine was liberated from the dreadful storage room. Students were thrilled to see the pop machine back in its place. GAL’S ARE ALLRIGHT Although G.A.A. does not stand for this, Mrs. Trigg certainly displayed this feeling the majority of the year and so did the rest of the club. After nine weeks of bowling, the club was ready to take on the tourna- ment of champions, too bad that they were not ready for us ! An enjoyable year was spent by the gfrls who participated in the 1973-74 club, and we would like to thank Mrs. Trigg for a good year. 68 SENIORS ARE CHA MPS On February 24 at 2:40, the show-down between the seniors and juniors arrived. Not only were the players ready for action, but the student body was ready to cheer, and cheer they did- -until the friendly Principal threatened them with their lives. It was a very close game, and talent was dis- played by both teams; but as usual the seniors came out on top and were awarded their trophy. It started out with bugs and food. The com- munity welcomed Mary with a picnic in the Weldon park. A dynamic weekend was experienced with the 17 AFS students that came from differ- ent towns in central Illinois. It was an en- lightening, but somewhat tiring exper- ience. A brief tour of the U of I campus lead to many yawns and camera flashes. Several new and awkward styles were ob- served by people in the Western Bowl as the group tried their hand in the new sport. Everyone was treated to a potluck on Saturday night. Time was spent with the AFS guests showing slides and telling of their countries. The weekend was one that we will never forget. The next task that the AFS undertook was a scrumpdelicious chili supper. AFS mothers kept their dippers going as they served over one hundred people. Several AFS’ers were plagued with dish-pan hands when the whole thing was over. 74 At Christmas, Mary was given a party. She was quite thrilled with the gifts which she received. The affair was well attended by both communities. She always has a smile and usually a new word to tell you about. Who else but --Mary! Her country is Peru and her host, the Don Reynolds family. We will all remember Mary for her comments, questions, and answers. She really had a talent for brightening up some of the dull days at D-W High. The students had the privilege of teaching Mary how to swim, swear, and brown-nose. t ' L Games and refreshments were furnished by the AFS Chapter. A coat was present- ed to her from the high school AFS. Many chuckles and laughs were heard from the crowd as Mary commented on her gifts and cards. Mary ' s last comment was, Santa Claus was better to me this year than he has ever been before! 7 6 ■m HONORS RECEPTIO Vicki S. , Larry K. , Roger T. , Carmella P. , Pat C. , Jodie A. , Merry B. , Robyn B. , LeAnne E. , Judy M. , Penny T. , Steve T. , Merry W. , Lynne K. , Shirley S. , Mary C. , Diane H. , Connie W. , Karen B. , Deanne H. , Holly B. , Deb Roy, Deb R. , Tom T. , Helen T. , Linda S. , Pam H. , Mama F. 77 O J h MEMBERS: Tom T. , Deb R. , Deb Roy, Larry K. , Holly B. , Diane H. , Mary C. , Kathy P. , Linda S. , Marha F. , Pam H. The Band not only faithfully marched for football games and Home- comings, they also participated in the Northwestern Band Day and the U. of I. Band Day. Practicing for these competi- tions meant several early morning practices and marching up and down the road for MILES and MILES . . . Their hard efforts payed off though. The Band received a first for percussion and a fourth out of twelve schools in their divi- sion in state competition at the U. of I. The Band is one of the most active organ- izations at D-W and should be highly commended! 81 CONTEST . . . NER VO US, WOODWIND ENSEMBLE: Gayle G. , Lynn K. , Lisa B. DO RE MI 85 The 1973-74 Pep Club started out with a bang! Although it fizzled out in the end, it did have its highlights. The Pep Club sponsored a wall -decorating contest for homecoming, and had bake sales to buy jerseys to wear at the ball games. Pep Club officers are as follows: Mrs. Pasley, Sponsor, Diana M. Pres. , Pat C. Vice., Gayle G. Treas. , Merry B. Sec., and Linda S. Student Council Rep. PEP CL UB THE AGE OF AQUARIUS The Age of Aquarius set the mood for Homecoming this year. It was a time of excitement and disappoint- ment. The 10 to 11 score disappointed many Eagle fans, but they quickly recoverd when they saw the beautifully decorated gym which was provided by Stu- dent Council. The music from the Bob Norman Band filled the halls adding to the excitement of the Grand March. Then the mystic moment arrived. It was time to announce the attendants and the King and Queen. The lights were lowered, the drums rolled and the winners were revealed. They are as follows : King, Andy Langley; Queen, Diane Huisinga; Senior Attendants, Debbie Roy and Tim Hogan; Junior Attendants, Linda Sprague and Roger Baker; Sophomore Attendants, Coral Worthey and Craig Riddle; Freshman Attend- ants, Gayle Gregory and Roger Twist. 88 FRESHMAN ORIENTA TION? They could be compared to Freshmen the first day of school. Scurrying around with class schedules in their hands, they didn ' t look like Freshmen, some of them looked old enough to be parents --most of them were! It was the open house for parents. It began at seven with an assembly. The students of various classes had prepared 9 ? presentations for the event. After the as- sembly the parents were subjected to everything from animal dissection to reading French menus to a complex phys- ics experiment. The parents, following a mini schedule, attended the classes their teenagers usu- ally would. This enabled them to get a better perspective of a student ' s school day and also gave them a chance to talk with the teachers. After school , re- freshments were served in the lobby. There was a good turn-out and on the whole the open house was a great success!  After six weeks of diligent practicing, the Junior’s debut came. The members of the play cast who had so notoriously side-step- ped rehearsals were now nervously pacing backstage. But the moment had arrived and ready or not the play had to go on! Everyone was anxious to know Who Dunnit? A sophisticated mystery writer is murdered and the Arch Angel grants him twen- ty-four hours to go back to earth and find out Who Dunnit ! Many tears and laughs filled the gym on that Friday night. A great sigh of relief was heard coming from the sponsors and the play cast when the play was over. Many comments were heard on the play afterwards. Most of the juniors just couldn ' t believe it worked! But the play did work and it came off just great! Cast: Julie W. , Linda W. , Gary N. , Rick S. , Shirley S. , Steve T. , Tony E. , Pam H. , Kelly H. , Ms. Shields, Sherrie B. , Kathy P. , Linda S. , Merry B. ,• Marna F. , Jodie A. , Robin B. , Ms. Borys. 95 LE FETE DE NOEL LETTERMAN’S CARNIVAL Along with the March wind, in roared the Lettermen ' s Carnival. On March 2nd the Lettermen sponsored a Carnival as a money making project. It is not the run of the mill type project, though. There are several booths where one can test his skill at throwing darts, knocking down bottles, and many other sports. Not only does the con- testant achieve the self- satisfaction of knowing he has conquered these skills, he also has the chance to win prizes in the raffle. These in- cluded a clock radio, a broiler oven, tape deck and a camera. Not only were the winners happy, but also the lettermen. Their carnival was a great success ! 100 MONTICELLO FLORIST The Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Ramada Inn in Urbana. After a buffet banquet, the couples danced to the music of the Front Page. After Prom was held at Foster ' s Bowl in Mon- ticello. The Junior Class can be thanked for a lovely evening. 105 106 G R ADUATION VALEDICTORIAN: Deb Reeser SALUTATORIAN: Tom Tuttle 107 AWARDS PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS: (Top to Bottom): Patti C. , Gina O. , Tim H. , S.
