THE FREE SPIRIT is a personal thing. It is expressing oneself as a person feels. It is creating . . . working . . . expanding . . . growing. It is be- lieving in a particular concept, while your neighbor believes in the opposite. It is attending a concert, or painting a picture, or reading a book, or watching the clouds go by - just because you want to. It is the development of a person- ality, an idea, a dream. In a period in history when people are clamoring about ’’rights, and privileges and freedoms,” we of DeLand- Weldon decided to take poll of how our country, our community, our school measured up to the loud demands of angry youth. Because of what we saw, we decided to make THE FREE SPIRIT the theme of the ' 70 yearbook. For you see, we of DeLand-Weldon do believe that the citizens of DWHS are as free as the clouds. - From Standard Book of Design 2
