Pubfosfu A jo ttus P V y Qtudwb Body oft DeLowd ' -Weldoto Nigh Qchool THE FREE SPIRIT is a personal thing. It is expressing oneself as a person feels. It is creating . . . working . . . expanding . . . growing. It is be- lieving in a particular concept, while your neighbor believes in the opposite. It is attending a concert, or painting a picture, or reading a book, or watching the clouds go by - just because you want to. It is the development of a person- ality, an idea, a dream. In a period in history when people are clamoring about ’’rights, and privileges and freedoms,” we of DeLand- Weldon decided to take poll of how our country, our community, our school measured up to the loud demands of angry youth. Because of what we saw, we decided to make THE FREE SPIRIT the theme of the ' 70 yearbook. For you see, we of DeLand-Weldon do believe that the citizens of DWHS are as free as the clouds. - From Standard Book of Design 2 ' iJilSia !!!i!Sia i.fisa milk lllllllllli? lilllllllllVr liii ' SIlSS m- TctbOto oft Contents AdhutuStn iilOiv dosses f - ' UlSllhitiMV Activities Cp cioJl Activities Sfxwfe QojpkowweS JumIoaS Q uChS 3 Deekc tam A teacher who views the classroom as a learning experience . . . Many long hours are spent by these seven board members in meet- ing the educational needs of our student body. We appreciate the time they have spent to aid us in becoming better educated. SEATED: STANDING: MARIE WHITE, Secretary Dear Students: Each of you is preparing for your future. With guidance and serious thought you should develop the se- quential thinking leading to the art of constructive criticism and cre- ativity coupled with skill analysis, which will stand you in good stead for your future. Always strive to improve - never falter. Good luck. Perry E. Whitson Superintendent 6 Dear Students: This has been a tumultuous year at DeLand- Weldon High School for both students and faculty. I wish to congratulate the student body on its many achievements during the school year, 1969-70. Students have done well in the classroom and on the playing field, but I especially commend them for their positive attitudes and their willingness to adjust and work for success when things may not appear to be always going their way. The ability to adjust to new situations, to give 75 o of oneself, when 50 °]o might, do, and the initiative to apply oneself with sincere dedication to the task at hand, both at school and in the working world, will bring you much success. Through the study of His- tory in the courses offered at DWHS, one learns the importance of the events making up our past and present, and how our decisions will influence the past and present, and how our decisions will influence the future.
