These four girls did routines with the band at foot- ball and basketball games and marched with the band in six area parades. The Senior Class Presents Trysting Place The Ugly Duckling Johnny Cranford 1967 HF Math The Mathematics Department branched out to three different teachers this year. Beginning with the basics and stretching to abstract concepts. Math this year was a challenge to teachers and students alike. Mrs. Stokes did her student teaching during the second nine weeks. 4 Social Studies A knowledge of the past, as well as the fu- ture can be gained in the Social Studies department of D-W. Two new teach- ers have taken the re- sponsibility of teaching the American Problems, World History, American History, World Geography and Sociology classes. Language, whether French or English, is one of the important means of communications that one can develop. To increase our knowledge of languages, classes in college prepara- tory English, basic three years of English, and two years of French are taught to emphasize the skills of improved communications. Business BUSINESS To better prepare a student for a business career, courses in (1) bookkeep- ing, (2) shorthand, (3) notehand, (4) business English, and (5) typing are of- fered at DeLand -Weldon. This year a new course was intro- duced, (3) notehand. Like shorthand, notehand empha- sizes the transcription of notes, but for a more personal use. This easy-to-leam method of writing makes note taking more rapid and much simpler than by the long- hand method. c I e n c e The science classes learned that planning ahead is an important funda- mental of experimenting. Classroom discussions and explanations by Mr. Ed- man and Mr. Erickson served as the link between the information and the student’s understanding. The biology students attempted to draw what they saw under the microscopes. Also they learned to associate this with living lar- ger animals. This page sponsored by GEO. H. DUNN, Int. Harvester, Farmer City Agriculture The Agriculture boys studied about motors and agricultural mechanics. The course is taught by Mr. Gregory who pre- pares the boys for agricultural occupations. Industrial Arts The Industrial Arts boys work with such things as leather crafts, woodcraft, looms, sheet metal and other materials. Due to the fire at the Junior Hi School classes were moved to die high school, where a new Industrial Arts building will be built. 65 This page sponsored by DE WITT COUNTY NATIONAL BANK and JOHN WARNER BANK, CUnton 1. i Muscles Aching 66 FIRST STATE BANK OF MONTICELLO - IVALL’S CAFE, Monticello and Bones V eary 67 Home Economics Home Economics 1,11, and III are taught by Mrs. Leischner.
