Math Mathematics is the science treating of the exact relations existing between quantities or magnitudes and opera- tions, and of the methods by which quantities sought are deducible from others known or supposed. In order to graduate, students must have at least two years of math. Freshmen choose either practical math, which was taught by Mr. Holste, or Algebra I, taught by Mr. Banks. Those taking practical math take Algebra I their sophomore year; those taking Algebra take plane geometry. In plane geometry students study two dimensional figures. Geometry is supposed to help one learn to think logically. This year Mr. Banks had twenty- seven sophomores in his geometry class. Algebra II is for students who have completed Algebra I and most students have completed plane geometry. The class consisted of nine boys and one girl. Three seniors took modem math. This is the most advanced mathematics course taught in our high school. It consists of one semester of trigonometry and one semester of solid geometry, and modern mathematics.

The Sophomores ' main worries in litera- ture are the novel SILAS MARNER and the play JULIUS CAESAR. They study the parts of the sentence clauses, and verbs in grammar. English In French II the students learn the com- plicated verb forms. In second year French they enjoy the singing more be- cause they can understand them. and French In French I the students learn nouns and simple verb forms. The Seniors in English IV studied the play HAMLET by Shakespeare. They also attended the play at Millikin. Contrary to popular belief that Chaucer was a new saucer for chocolate milk, they found out that he was the person who wrote CANTERBURY TALES. Their big project in grammar was writ- ing a term paper.
