DEDICATION We, the staff of the 1961 EAGLE, wish to dedicate this year ' s annual to Mrs. Kay Leischner, our class sponsor. The success of our class would not have been possible had it not been for the many hours of hard work which she has unselfishly given of her time. Not only has she worked energetically in the home economic classes, but she has sacrificed her spare time counseling girls in their problems. A wonderful teacher, she has taught home economics, girls ' physical education, general science, and health. For her help and inspiration in aiding the Senior Class, we extend our thanks.

O. H. WISTHUFF Unit Superintendent MARIE WHITE Unit Secretary SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE In ancient Greece the Olympic games were held every ten years. Only the best and greatest athletes were allowed to compete. A high point of the games was a cross-country distance race. The victor was alwyas highly ac- claimed. This race, however, was different in one respect from all others. As it began, each runner was handed a lighted torch. The object of the race was not only to be the first across the finish line--but also to keep that torch burning. The parable is not hard to see. Not only are we to compete in life and struggle manfully for the victor’s prize--we are also to keep our torch aflame--our witness and example must light the way for others. MEN HAVE DIED TO LEAVE YOU THESE FOUR SYMBOLS OF FREE- DOM: A HOLY BIBLE--symbol of your right to worship as you wish. A DOOR KEY- -your right to lock your door against illegal govern- ment force and prying. A PENCIL- -freedom to speak or write what you think, whether you agree with the government or not. AND A FREE BALLOT --your right to choose the people who represent you in government- -your protection against government tyranny. We who are your teachers pass the torch to you. Carry it proudly. O. H. Wisthuff
