At the beginning of our sophomore year, we had thirty-four class mem- bers. We were received by the Senior High with a hearty welcome - U the initiation. We returned their welcome by giving an all -school Hal- loween party. In November, a new sophomore, Keith Barnes, moved to Weldon from Iowa. When we returned to school as juniors, we were a class of thirty-four students. Over the summer vacation, we lost two members, Keith Barnes who moved away, and Junior Eastham who dropped out. Bar- bara Nichols, who came from Monticello, moved to DeLand to join our class at the beginning of the school year. Class officers this year are: President, Bob Sprague; Vice-president, Andy Burgess; Secretary, Anne Reeser; and Treasurer, Wilma Rule. Our play, entitled The Mad Hatters was presented November 7. Here’s to a successful Junior -Senior Prom and Banquet on May 8. The DeLand -Weldon Junior High School was honored with forty -eight new students in the fall of ’49. Three enjoyable years were spent in the Junior High with the exception of the occurrence of an automobile accident, which took the life of a classmate, Keith Franklin. Nine other students either moved away or dropped school. Thirty-three sophomores found themselves in the midst of juniors and seniors in the Senior High School this year. Two of these sophomores, Steve Swanstrom and Eugene Spellbring, were new to the students as well as to the school. Class officers are: President, Steve Swanstrom; Vice-president, Jack Goodmon; and Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Wea- ver. We thanked the seniors for the fine” initiation with a Halloween party. We, the sophomores of DeLand -Weldon Senior High School are well on our way in preparing ourselves for our junior and senior years which lie ahead of us.
