JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY In the fall of ' 49, 34 freshmen entered DeLand -Weldon Junior High. During the year we lost two members, Juanita Cunningham who moved to Green Valley, and Neva Burns, who moved to Clinton. We won first place in the freshman tournament at junior high during the second semester. During the month of March, the junior high gave a comedy entitled The Baby Sitter. Seven freshmen participated in the play. During our sophomore year at senior high, we lost Herbert Burton, who joined the Navy; Leonard Franklin, who joined the Air Corps; Joe Tool, who moved to the vicinity of Rantoul; Edward King, who moved to Mt. Pulaski; Marie Watkins, who moved to Clinton; and Janet Lashbrook, who dropped out. We were received by the senior high with a hearty welcome --the initiation. Evelyn Hoops, who came from Clinton, moved to Weldon in the spring of ' 51 to join our class. As juniors we started with 26 class members. During the summer we lost Doris Ann Webb, who moved to Rock Island, Illinois. Our play The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” was a big success and we hope the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom on May 9, 1952, will go over as well. We are looking forward to being high and mighty seniors. SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY As we embarked on our junior high career we had 46 representatives. During the year we lost one member. Seven of our classmates performed in the junior high play, The Boarding House Reach. ” The ninth grade basketball team won the Freshmen Tourney. When we entered senior high we had a class of 34 green sophomores. During the first few weeks of school we were thoroughly initiated into senior high. Later in the year we gave the Halloween party. In November, a new sophomore, Keith Barnes, moved to Weldon from Iowa. Our entire class likes the DeLand -Weldon Senior High and we are looking forward to our future junior and senior years here.
