Essential for day-to-day living is the ability to communicate efficiently. To help succeed in efficient communication, Eng- lish classes instill in each student this talent. English 9 and 10 teach each student the basic skills of speaking and writ- ing, while Composition and Speech enrich what these early classes have begun. Literature classes explore the feelings of the past and present and sometimes venture into the future. Journalism breaks down the everyday newspaper for study, and developmental reading allows students to gain more information through faster reading. Visual communication is accomplished through TV and Drama classes which culti- vate theatrical interests and talents. How many books do you need for a research paper? ROW Baron ‘Big Red Machine’’ Rebuild September dawned a new era in the Baron world of football. The ‘‘Big Red Machine” found themselves in the midst of a giant rebuilding program. Thirteen Seniors with relatively little experience were forced to attempt to bridge a large gap left from last year’s graduation. Even though they could only muster a 2—7 record, the ‘Machine’ could have easily been over .500 with a few more breaks in their favor. Also, the Barons faced two new and very strong teams, Goshen and Chesterton. While living with Ken Wil- son and his family, lvan grew accustomed to the daily life in Indiana. He did many things, such as hunting in Michigan, skiing with Campus Life, and snow mobiling. Ivan found life at DeKalb High School an inter- esting experience. At DeKalb, Ivan was active in A TRUE BARON gymnastics, track, Student Council, Boys’ Pep Club, National Honor Society, and various ac- tivities offered. After a two-week tour of the U.S., lvan returns to Brazil and college. At col- lege he plans to study for his career as a doctor and later to return to the U.S. and finish his medi- cal education.
