Commander H. C. Morris, USN Commanding Officer Commander Morris was born in McCamey, Texas, in 1930, graduated from the University of Southern California and was commissioned an Ensign in June 1952. He was ordered to duty aboard USS BADOENG STRAIT fCVE-1163, ultimately becoming the excort carrier's First Lieutenant. In April 1955, he was ordered' to the destroyer USS WATTS QDD-5671 as Gunnery officer. He served on that ship until June 1957 , when he reported to the staff of the U.S. Fleet Sonar School, San Diego, California. In July 1959, he was ordered as Executive Officer of the radar picket des- troyer escort USS FINCH QDER-3285. While on FINCH he made one picket as Commanding Officer. In August 1961, CDR Morris was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, D.C., as Assistant Head,.Military Programs Section of the Officer Candidate Education and Training Branch, with principal duties in planning and administration of Naval Academy and NROTC midshipman summer training activities afloat and ashore. , After commanding USS MILLS fDER-3835 from November 1964 to October 1966, CDR Morris served as Head, Surface Ordnance Section, Materiel Division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, before reporting aboard DE HAVEN. His decorations include: China Service Medal, National Defense Medal with one star, Korean Service Medal with two stars, Antarctic Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Commander Morris assumed command of DE HAVEN on 15 January 1970. He is married to the former Mary Margaret Baum of Pomona, California. They presently reside with their five childreng Deborah, Clay, Mark, Patricia, and Milissa at Huntington Beach, California.

LCDR PD VVertz, USN Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Wertz was born in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts in 1937, grad- uated from S.E. Massachusetts university and was commissioned an Ensign in Dec- ember 1958. After serving as auxilliaries officer aboard USS BEXAR QAPA 2371 he was ordered to Staff, Hawaiian Sea Frontier as Commanding Officer of the Flag Allowance. In November 1962 he reported to USS KAWISH- IWI fAO 1465 as gunnery officer and navigator. Destroyer duty as operations officer and weapons officer aboard USS OZBOURN QDD 8465 followed, and in November 1965 LCDR Wertz was ordered to postgraduate school in Mon- , terey, California. Here he received a Masters Degree in Operations Research. LC DR Wertz became executive officer of DE HAVEN in July 1968. His decorations include: Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Citation, National Defense Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal with four stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam Cam- paign Medal.
