BASKETBALL On the basketball front a long season I5 just drawing to a close and rt was far from successful rn the eyes of many followers Lookmg back rs not remembermg the true facts but seemg what we would have lrked to see happen Nevertheless lets remember for a few moments and try for some conclusrons on how rt wtll affect our future From the standpornt of wrns our boys won 5 and lost 13 wrth four of these wrns comrng rn regul ar league play A far cry from a good year but let s look at some of these losses In only one game have the opponents won by more than 9 pornts and on srx occasions the fmal outcome was declded by four or less pomts ln the matter of rnjurres and breaks the Devrls have had then' share wrth the fact that rn only one game this year have all the varsrty been on hand and ready to go Another handrcap under whrch they have been workrng 15 the lack of herght around the backboards Even w1th no one reachrng over the srx foot mark the team has proven once more that they may be out gunned but never out fought In the league thrs year Mt Vernon sewed up frrst place w1tn a record of 10 and 2 and the Devrls can proudly pomt to one of those defeats as then' work On the other hand Mr Vernon was the team whrch delrvered the Devrls the worst lrckrng of the year wtnning by 18 pornts Coach Roy Brothers used every man on the team repeatedly attempttng to freld a wxnntng team Thrs added strengthn expenence helped the team rn trght srtuatrons and prepared the boys for next year At the Drstrrct tournament Dayvxlle playmg the type of ball they were capable of and back ed by the largest travelmg rootrng sectron placed fourth Accordmg to the Blue Mountarn Eagle Dayvrlle was Just gorng along for the r1de at the Drstrrct 7 B Tourney The r1de proved to be qurte favorable and much longer than some of the so called favorr Among the v1ct1ms were Spray and Prarrre C1ty Crane and Mt Vernon elrmrnated the Devrls these teams ftnlshmg one and two whlch certamly adds prestlge to Dayvrlle Alfred Cotham a fme player and a swell guy placed on the second frve of the all star team Dayvrlle w11l lose Wade Nodrne Bruce Lemberger and Alfred Cotham to graduatron They wrll certamly be mlssed However next year looks l1ke a promrstng year for Dayvrlle as seven let termen return Trl-County Standrngs Won Lost Mt Vernon Crane Pratrre Cxty Spray Mrtchell Dayvrlle Long Creek Monument l ICS. . ----------- 10 2 ----------------11 3 .. . .--------.-- 9 5 6 ' -------------- 8 6 ' ------------- 4 10 9
