Girls' Sporls Under +he coaching of Mr. and Mrs. Huff lhe Demons rolled up an impressive record 'For ihe 1951-1952 volleyball season. Every school in 'rhe disiricf, excep+ Mirchell, fell before 'ihe inspired play of our girls. M'l'. Vernon deieaied us once on iheir floor bur we more 'lhan made up for i+ by walloping lhem on our courf and by irouncing fhem in fhe 'Finals a+ +he Prairie Cily playday. Probably 'rhe biggesf ihrill of +he year was when we came from be- hind +o win 'rhe iirsi' place irophy a+ Prairie Ci+y, buf we were almosl' equally happy when we knocked over fhe powerful Savage'Hes of Monu- men+. As +his Annual goes +o press we are arranging for a counfy volleyball iournamenl and we have high hopes of again walking off wi+h firsl place frophy. Carnival The annual Carnival was a greaf success!! Joy Sfarreff again managed fhe affair wifh a firm hand and everyone enjoyed if fo fhe ul'- mosf. The evenfs included darf fhro. nail drive. forfune felling. baslcefball fhrow. fish pond. bingo and many ofhers. There was a movie shown con- sisfing of a comedy and foofball highlighfs. Merchanfs of John Day and Dayville donafecl many fine fhings which were given as bingo and door prizes. The big evenf of The evening was fhe crowning of fhe queen. Joy Sfarreff, by Sfudenf Body President Bruce Lemberger. Princesses were Thelma Garrison and Marcia Belshaw. The girls won fheir posifions by a fickef-selling confesf. The Girls League served refreshmenfs of hof dogs and pop. The amounf 'raken in for fhe evening exceeded 5300. P Assemblies This year every room in fhe grade school and each class in 'rhe high school presenfed assemblies. One assembly was given each monfh and everyone was invifed. These enferfainmenfs made a hif wifh 'rhe pupils and public, They also gave fhe parenfs a chance fo see fheir children perform. as all sfudenfs parficipafed. Dances Affer fhe Elgin game fhe D.H.S. sfudenfs enferfained 'rhe Elgin boys wifh a dance in fhe assembly room. Many of our girls made quife a few new friends as a resulf of fhis affair. We had no ofher dances af school excepf fhe Prom because of fhe numerous dances down fown. Square dancing fool: up parf of our fime during P. E. periods. School Picnic The annual school picnic lasf spring was held af Joaquin Miller re- sorf where we showed 'rhe deparfing seniors a whale of a good fime. This May 24fh will find us back af fhe resorf fishing. swimming. playing ball. hiking, eafing. efc.
