The new Devil coach, Dave Hawk, faced a rebuilding 'ob in fha casaba sporf and nof foo much was expecfed. buf frue fo Dayville fradifion coach Hawk broughf fhe boys along nicely and had a fighfing quinf af fourna- menf fime. Everyone felf down hearfed when fhe Devils losf all fhe December confesfs. buf fhen came fhe new year and a firsf vicfory over Mifchell. From fhen on fhe sharpshoofers of D.H.S. held fheir own wifh fhe resf of 'rhe lea ue. The Dayvillifes ended up wifh a six and six record in league play, which was good enough for fourfh place. The Devils defeafed every league member excepf Mf. Vernon. ln compefifion oufside fhe league we didn'f fare foo well as we dropped Two confesfs fo John Day. one fo Elgin, Prairie Cify and Fossil. The Fossil defeaf. however, was lafer avenged as our boys soundly wal- loped fhe Falcons on fheir floor. A+ fhe Disfricf Tournamenf our squad came 'rhrough wifh fourfh place. In fhe firsf engagemenf of fhe fournamenf we mef Spray and were serif down fo defeaf. Going info fhe consolafion brackef we fangled wifh fhe Monumenf Savages and when fhis scrap was over fhe black and orange had racked up an overwhelming vicfory. Nexf on our agenda was a fus- sle wifh +he Mifchell Loggers . This confesf proved fo be very excifing and our boys won fhe hearfs of many fournamenf fans by coming from far behind fo edge ouf fhe Loggers in fhe lasf minufe 47-45. Those pesky Spray Eagles , who lafer won fhe championship. gave us our lasf look af fournamenf play as fhey again dropped fhe Devils in a well played confesf. The greafesf fhrill for Dayville came when we were presenfed wifh fhe fournamenf sporfsmanship frophy. This is a lasfing fribufe fo our players. coach. sfudenfs. feachers and fownspeople.
