6761.45 Adfory In September of 1954, the Dayton students were joined by the Templeton, Hoov- er, Calhoun, Goheenville, and Oliver students. To begin our freshman year We elected class officers. They were John Cousins-President, Dick Sherry-Vice- President, Betty Williamson-Secretary, Joanne McMeans-Treasurer, and Kay Schrecengost-Historian. Our advisors were Mr. Bennett and Mr. Decock. Our first activity was a Friday the 13th dance which proved to be very successful. As sophomores we started the year by electing new class officers. They were John Cousins-President, Jim Wilson-Vice-President, Betty Williamson-Secretaryg and Joanne McMeans-Treasurer. Mr. Evans. Miss Black, and Mr. Reitz were our advisors. During that year we chose our class motto-- Onward and Upwardv, class colors- turquoise and white, and class Hower-white rose. We also held a dance as our one activity. In August of '56 we began our junior year which proved to be a very exciting one for us. In October we carried on the tradition of having the Halloween dance with many ghosts and witches present. Tom Brice-President, John Cousins- Vice-President, Harriet McCarty-Secretary, Joanne McMeans-Treasurer, were the new class officers, and Mrs. Helm and Mr. Iole were our advisors. Newt on our agenda was the choosing of our classrings. After having a long dis- cussion of prices and styles, we finally chose the ones We wanted, and we showed them with great pride after they arrived. Since the new gym was finished, we were able to present a junior play. With the assistance of Mr. Baker and Mr. Iole, We presented Shy Guyf' a three-act comedy. In May we turned to one of our biggest festivities of the year, the Junior Prom. Our theme was Tropical Moonlightv for which we decorated the gym with palms and scenes from the Tropics. The music of James Ryder and his Melody Five was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Alma Matthews and Joanne Priester were chosen to attend the queen in her court. Their escorts were Tom Brice and Dick Sherry. In 1957 when we entered our last year at Dayton Joint High School, we were filled with sadness because of the death of Louise Wolfe, a fellow classmate. Our class had reduced from 86 in our freshman year to 63 in our senior year. For our senior class officers, we elected Tom Brice-President, Connie Lienweber- Secretary, and Joanne McMeans-Treasurer. Our senior advisors were Mrs. Leek and Mr. Baker. Now that we were seniors, we had many duties to fulfill throughout the year. We had the usual job of the seniors, to plan and to produce a yearbook. The staff was chosen for this task and they were the following: James Griffith-Editor, Joanne Priester-Co-Editor, James Wilson-Photography Editor, Joanne Mc- Means and Darrell Shirey-Business Managers, and Veljean Kline-Typing Edi- tor. Nancy Marshall, Rosalie Rupp, Janet Cornman, Eleanor WValter and Tom Brice were also on the staff and Mrs. Leek was the advisor. In September we held the first dance of the year which was well attended. Early in November we presented our senior play Scatterbrain,,, a three-act comedy. Mr. Baker was the coach and Mr. Iole was in charge of the stage. In December we held our annual Christmas Party. We had lunch, exchanged and opened our gifts, and later danced in the gym. On May 2 we were guests of the juniors at the prom. Our senior banquet, senior trip, and class day presentation were the only events left before Baccalaureate and Commencement. After the last two events our days at DJHS were completed. As we leave, the doors of the school close behind usg the doors of our many and various futures open before us. 27
