SCHCOL HONORS JEAN WILSON and ANN CLEVER M U S I C A W A R D S In addition to participating in many County and District Festivals, Ann Clever has in previous years represented Dayton in the horn section of State Band. This year she adds a place in State Chorus to her list of accomplishments. While participating in all the musical groups of the school, Jean Wilson has specialized in playing cello. This year marks her third year as a player in State Orchestra. Linda Beck, Roberta Stover, and Nancy Marshall JUNIOR HIGH AWARDS Several awards were given to outstanding junior high students. Roberta Stover was the annual eighth grade essay winner. Nancy Marshall received this honor in seventh grade. Nancy also represented our school in the Daily Leader Times Spelling Contest last year. Linda Beck was voted the HOutstanding Girl in eighth grade. These awards were given by the American Legion Auxiliary. 57

SCHOOL HONORS Seated Cleft to rightbz Donna Gearhart, Kay Hyskell, Jean Wilson Standing: Patricia Barnett, Robert Russell JOURNALISM AWARDS Jean Wilson, Donna Gearhart, Kay Hyskell, and Robert Russell each received bronze pins from the Pennsylvania Press Association and first awards for individual articles appearing in last year's school papers. Jean received her pin and award on a news item write-upg Donna, for an editorialg Kay, on a feature article, while Robert received his in the area of sports reporting. Second award winners include Patty Barnett for her contribution in poetry, Kay Hyskell and Jean Wilson for interviews, and Robert Russell for a sports article and a short story. Don Alcorn, Paul Kirkpatrick, Dale Aden AGRICULTURAL AWARDS Paul Kirkpatrick was awarded a Bronze Medal at State College in June of 1953. He won the medal in a Farm Mechanics Contest, Don Alcorn played the saxophone in the State FFA Band and at the Farm Show at Harrisburg in Janu- ary, 1954. He also received a Gold Medal in the State Project Contest tdairy recordsl. Dale Aden won fourth place in an exhibit on clover seed in state-wide competition. 56

Marilyn Gibson leaves her giggles to Shirley Doverspike. To Doris Clever, Betty Allen Crissman leaves her Home Ec. ability. Paul Kirkpatrick gives his position at the Ford Garage to Mr. Baker. Willingly, Virginia Fisher gives her petiteness to Donna Gearhart. Mildred Doverspike leaves her brains to Jack Easley. Regretfully, Susan Kammerdiener wills her position on the yearbook staff to Peggy Lockhart. To Mr. Decock, Dave Brice leaves his driving ability. Anna Bittinger wills her red cheeks to Nancy Copenhaver. Sorrowfully, Tom Dickey bequeaths his ability to annoy girls to Jim Stover. To Mrs. Ault, Richard Brocious leaves his freckles. Eugene Brocious wills his '48 Ford to anyone with patience enough to drive it. Gladly, Tom Fisher leaves his math ability to Ronald Fox. To Paul Rumbaugh, Helen Bresnock wills her pretty complexion. Lois Crawford wills her dimples to Mr. Reitz. Harold Geist sadly leaves his ability to charm the girls to Carl Shirey. To Phyllis Coleman, Olive Hyskell wills her love for cooking. Mildred Hollenbaugh wills her Highty temper to all those with mild dispositions. Clifford Brocious wishes to leave his skating ability to Miss Marietti. Gladly, Sara Cornman wills her devotion to flashy colors to Miss Rea. Zeke Kuhns wants to leave, period. Shirley Hallman wills her craziness in the school plays to anyone dumb enough to act the part. To Marlene Lightner, Gerry Blackwell leaves her ability to skip school. Sadly, Joy Cousins wills her silver dollar to anyone broke enough to want it. Kay Hyskell leaves her ability to make A's to Jim Barrett. Shirley Parsell bestows her love for hillbilly music upon Mrs. Stull. To Roberta McGaughey goes Jean Wilson's athletic ability. Willingly, Leonard McMeans leaves his height to Kay Stewart. Maxine Stockdale gives her troubles to anyone who will have them. Sadly, John McMillen leaves his basketball ability to Fred Reichard. 58
