The school was ot't'iciallg organized us a threefgear school in 1881. During the half centurg since that date Dagton High School has grown to an institution mung times its original size. lt has been necessarg to change the location of the school twice to accommodate its growth. For several gears it was housed in the original building. erected in 1880. along with part of the elementurg school. ln 1903 it was moved to the Central School where it remained until 1923. when the present school building was erectea'. partlg through funds from the will ot' Dr. Pietrzgcki. after whom the school is named, The number ot' subjects offered has increased with the number of students. ln 1881 there were ten. In 1900, when Dagton High School was changed from a three to a four-gear school, more were added. On the other hand. as the schedule for subjects is made out for them when they enroll, not as much freedom in choosing their surf- jects is given as is allowed regular classes. Also as the classes are always small, their vote fortns the minority in class meetings. After finishing the required four years of work, a member of such a class must wait a half year to receive his diploma. Until seven years ago classes were graduated at midfyear. The Indian name. which they selected. means Hour talk. Several years later the publication was changed into a year book. An adi- tion was issued each year up to 1932. when it became necessary to discontinue its publication because of lack of financial support. A printed senior booklet was published that year. Similar booklets were mimeographed in 1933 and l03-1. This 1935 Nesika NVawa is the result of several years of effort on the part of many students who regretted the discontinuance of the yearbook. This new beginning will make it easier for future students to continue with the publica' tion which has come to mean so much to the students of Dayton High School. Five players, Gosney and D. Blessinger, infielders, Patton and Casteel. pitchers, and Morris, catcher. will be lost by graduation or the age limit. The experienced players who will be back next year are Winnett, Bruce, Sleeman, Donley. Slack, Weatherfcmrcl, Smith. F. Blessinger, Culbertson. Gates and Bassett. TRACK Interest in track has been on the decline at Dayton until in l935, the track team consisted of Bill Boone, high jumper. Bill is a member of the graduating class. As a sophomore, in l933, Boone took second place in the high jump both at the sub-district and district meets. His top height was about 5 feet 4 inches. At this year's sub-district meet, he jumped 5 feet 7 inches to a tie fOr first place with Miller of Vwfaflrli.
