Most of us have been here for our four years of high school, and as we leave now we step out to face an uncertain future. The years to come bring success and failure, but as we glance at these pages our labors will be lightened and our yearbook worth while. Each of the students here at D.H.S. had a part in making this school year one to be remembered. Each event will be remembered because they are a part of our school career--a time never to be forgotten. As we close, we would like to express our appreciation and give recognition to the members of the staffand our spon- sor, Mrs. Harwood, who have given their time to produce this yearbook. We hope you enjoy The Highlight. It was ours for al- most a year. Now it belongs to you. Sincerely, 966202, 772 Gjkzlazaf b W Zniig 0 O vhrrattnn Dear Mr. Williams, We wish to express our deep appreciation to you for the help you have given us during the years you have been at D.H.S.e You have taken an interest in our individual problems and offered wise counsel toward our future ed11Cai2i0r1- In an effort to thank you for everything you have done, we dedicate this edition of the 'Highlight' to you, Mr. Williams. Let's look back to that first year. Charles Wheeler was a little shy then, and Pat Gochenour had long pig-tails. The basketball team consisted of Larry Gentry, Jerry Ricks, Larry DeBoy, Gary McIntyre and Max Biery. Our experts on farming were Dennis Marsh, and Mike Alkire. Bob Burkhardt and Bob Liphard were the mischief makers. In the first year we learned to read, write and do nsome' counting. Mrs. Nantz received us with reading, writing, and arithmetic stamped all over us. Sharon Golden was welcomed from Longlois and Brenda Engler came from Mulberry. n From ice cream to Coca Cola, from spelling bees to mathematics, our year with Mrs. Sandifur can never be forgotten. Georganne Wickes came to us from Indianapolis and Lois Foresman from Wea, making thirteen girls and twenty boys In Mrs. Denhardt's fourth grade, our thirty-six members made a scrapbook about EUPOPGHH countries. Jean Myer joined us from Burlington and Zelda Gipson left for Rossville. This was the year of our first play, WThe Princess Who Wouldn't Cry,W which was not given before an audience, of course! Another year down and seven more to go as we moved into Mrs. McCarty's fifth grade. Charles Connolly moved to Illinois and Euleen Ellison moved in from Tennessee. A trip to Cinerama in Chicago climaxed still another year. Mrs. Aldrich welcomed us to our last f d h ' months. of hard work with lots of fun thrggiring gG?n2e3cCgiLticit ggieglgg Lauramie and Alan Hutchings to West Side. Pat Newlin came nous from Lafayette A trip to Indianapolis where we ate in a W 1 1 H ' movie, closed the year: n exc us ve restaurant and saw a The Junior High Years, 7th and 8th, were spent with one main purpose-- getting an education. Jim Boyd and Roger York left us while Zelda Gipson came back for the remaining years. Both years were ended by a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. High school and four more years to go, four of the roughest, hardest, saddest, and happiest years we have spent. Since the girls outnumbered the boys, for once, Becky Barnett was our president. Mrs. Diffenderfer was our sponsor the first semester but left us in the charge of Miss Anderson the second semester. Harold Hill joined us from Rossville and two more girls, Betty and Helen Gertzen from the Indiana Academy at Cicero, joined us for the year. Initiation was the bright spot in our year, but the most thrilling was the moment our boys won the Freshman Four-Way Basketball Tourney. We were and still are very proud of them. The countdown had started--one year down and three to go. Mrs. Crawford and Mr. Fletcher were chosen as sponsors for our sophomore year and continued as such for our junior year. Larry DeBoy started his first of three years as president. Slate gray and white class sweaters came in the fall and 'LaSabre' rings were ordered in the spring. Our junior year started a little slowly, Kby this time the novelty of high school had worn offl, but what an ending! Just twenty-two of us--eleven boys, eleven girls. We welcomed Helen Gertzen back from the Indiana Academy after having been gone for a year. Linda Michael joined us making twenty-four juniors. The year included a trip to the State Legislature at Indianapolis and the play we had waited so long for, WBoarding House Reach.W At last our beloved senior year! Mr. Hobaugh and Mrs. Adler were elected our sponsors and Larry DeBoy remained president for the third year. During the summer Ruth Peters married and transferred to Jeff. Euleen Ellison also left us to be married. We were sorry to lose both girls, but hope that they will be happy. Linda Robertson came to us from Battle Ground making a total of twenty-three seniors to graduate. There were magazine sales and our play 'Cheaper By The Dozenn which was given in October. This began the first of a series of money-making projects for the Wrestfuln senior trip in May. May 21, 1962, ended the countdown of twelve glorious years here. We are very happy to go into the world as graduates, but a little sad to leave all our friends. SCHOOL DAYS Team work Two qun PCJPCX -13. .
