This is the. story of God's chosen vessels-the story of His Call-His Business in operation. Out of the nooks and corners of habitation 'come souls to kneel at the cross-to rejoice-to listen to to His Will-they sever ties and begin their journey to completion of His voice-to answer the call of the spirit. They listen,.they subscribe thatWill. Bronzed faces tanned by the winds out the tarms, entertainers, homemakers, laborers,-all join hands at D.B.l. to learn ol the Bible and the ways of Hiswork. From theisles of the south to the country of the far north-come the students-come the graduates. First severances are mild compared to trials of discipline. and selt denial of the train- ing period. As God begins the great refinement-those meaning com- plete surrender, feel joy and satisfaction of purpose. Through inclement weather and loneliness, through many tiresome hours of study and pray- ers of heavy intercession, God brings the student and he be.comes the graduate. O, Spirit bless the one that has gone forth for Thee- Grant bonds of love to join our hearts as one. Horstl We. are Harvesters for Jesus in the field, As we take the Gospel to every tribe and race. Taking God's word as our sword, As we watch, and work and pray, We cannot fall by the way, We can go forward for Him in every day, Proclaiming the gospel messag e for our Lord, We will give our lives for Him, On the battle field you'll see, Harvesters to glean are we. FIRST D B 1 GRADUATES HARVESTERS' CLASS HISTORY Class of '51 We the Senior class of 1951 first graduates of Dayton Bible Institute, wish to give you a summary of some of the events that have happened in our three years of schooling. On December 19, 1950 other students wondered why the members of 'our class were so excited. It was on this day that a baby girl, Linda Kay, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Maglott. Our class was very proud for the fact that Brother and Sister Maglott were the parents of DBI. lt was wonderful news to hear of this event, but our hearts rejoiced more as we saw our Dean dedicate Linda Kay to the Lord. The Maglotts are now the pastors of the Ithaca Open Bible Church of God is blessing the ministry in many ways. - Two of our teachers have returned from our teaching staff to serve as assistant pastors elsewhere. We were sorry to hear of their resignation, but are happy to see them working for the Lord and having His blessing upon their ministry. Another member of our faculty, God saw fit to call home to his rewards. O'n May 28, 1949 our hearts were grieved to hear this, but yet we rejoice for we realize that some day we will be able to have fellowship with him again. The Rev. Willard D. Spencer whom the Lord saw fit to take home had previously taugh Bible Atlas and 'Personal Evange- lism at Dayton Bible Institute. He was also pastor of the Open Bible Church in Bel- mont and God had given him a marvelous ministry. Our class has quite a few who have been working for the Lord in various churches, while yet In school. Frances Swigart, a chalk artist, Edwin Stamper, photographer, Arthur Maglott, pastor of lthaca Open Bible Church, Clyde Moore, pastor of church in Pennsylvania, and Pierce Reed an evangelist. God has been blessing these students as they have been working for the Glory of the Lord. Throughout our threelyears of school we have had some of our students to assist the school. Velma Powell has been Our l-Ibrarlan, and truly everyone can say that she has done excellent work for the HARVESTERS' CLASS HISTORY Lord in the library. She has also worked for the Dean as secretary during her last year of school. Pierce Reed has served as bookroom manager. Pierce ordered supplies and books for the students as they needed them. We as the Senior Class are very proud of these students that have taken care of their work so faithfully. Many high lights. Other highlights during our school activity was the appearance and encourage- ment given to us to believe God for our needs from our Dean's wife Sister G. Ruth Welshons. lt was during a class period that she related to us how the Lord had healed her youngest son, Kevin after drinking kerosene. Although the life had left the child's body, God intervened and he was completely healed. Many times we don't quite understand why this or that should happen, but God has a purpose in every- thing He does as we see when He performed this miracle. A heart-breaking moment came to us and to Brother and Sister DeJaynes when the Lord found it fit to take their little loved one from their home. Their first child was born to them in a sickly condition with an affliction that only God knows all about. After keeping her in their home for almost a year the Lord saw fit to call her home. Still they looked to Him and praised Him for they knew the Lord had a purpose in His mighty works. lt was only a week later that the Lord filled the empty place in their hearts with another little girl who was perfect in health and a very beautiful child. On Christmas day while lying on a hospital bed Sister DeJaynes opened her Bible 'and God gave her the beautiful scripture found in Psalms 30:5 For His anger endureth but a moment, in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. As a result of this scripture they named their girl Linda Joy, the joy being for all that God meant to them and for all of His wonderful gifts. Brother and Sister DeJaynes found that no matter how great the tests and trials may be God will bring us out victoriously if we will only lift up the standards of His precious Word and do as He commands us. For theref may be tears in the night but there will always be joy in the morning. We have now come to the end of our history. Our three years may have at times seemed like we could not pull through but God was bidding us to come and cast our care upon Him. ln leaving we the graduating class of l95l wish to say good-bye to our faculty members, intimate friends and fellow students. lt has been wonderful having fellowship with you these three years and we will be praying for you as we labor in the various fields for the Lord. But you students leave memories so dear, Locked up within our heart. AIVIBASSADORS CLASS HISTORY An annual occurrence at Dayton Bible lnstltute is graduation However no com mencement would be complete without the class history The purpose of this history is to recapltulate the spiritual blessings and fellowship enjoyed in three years of school lt was in the fall of nineteen fifty that twelve eager freshmen sat in the student assembly room and took their entrance examinations Now six semester later eight of three years have been joyous sometimes tiring with study but yet full of those happy moments when all rejoice in Christ The eight graduates are Brothers Dean Ash Ronald Kelse Harvey Moyer Bert Culter Ray Curtin LeRoy Smith Sisters Grace Culter Doris Bucher and Barbara Smith We were sorry to see the original class parted Brother Bill Carol is now in the United States Army and Sisters Ruby Evans and June Kramer found it necessary to give up school. Their presence will be missed at graduation, but their places were temporarily filled by Brother and Sister Mason Hughes, transferred students from L. l. F. E. in California. We are equally glad to have Brother Ray Curtin graduating with us. I '52 the initial class are ready to don their caps and gowns and receive their diplolnas. The I I I I I ' I . ,'- . , During the three years several of the seniors were married. Those entering into holy matrimony were: Bert Culter Jr. and Grace Cundiffg Lowell Bucher and Doris Mills, and LeRoy Ruby anod Audrey Witherow. As we review the student's activities during the three years we readily see our senior class has been busy in the work of the Lord. lt was in November of the first year that Ronald Keise, Dean Ash, and LeRoy Ruby met with another member of the Harvester's class and formed D. B. l.'s first quartet. Their ministry was greatly blessed and the experience gained was invaluable. lt was during the summer between our freshman and junior years that many of the students really launched out for God. Donald Keise toured the British owned isle of Jamaica with a Youth For Christ team. Dean Ash and LeRoy Ruby traveled.to S1-eqmburg New York, where they held a two weeks revival in the community union church. Brother Ash remained the entire summer as pastor in this work, and the last report received gave the good news of its P 09 e55- As we returned to school for our Junior year Brother Keise and Brother Ash re- ' d in the school quartet and were beneficial in the school revival. It was at maine , . this time that the Ambassador class found a bountiful suPPlY of P0fenf'0l Preachers- Those speaking during the campaign were Ronald Keise, .Dean A5511 l-CROY Ruby. ond Hqryey Moyer. Summer again brought many opportunities to spread the gospe. Bert Culter Jr accompanied a senior last Year fo 0 Church 'n lowa' where he qsslsled os son Ieoller. Other students went with touring teams to recruit new students. God did no? deny their efforts and victorious rep0rfS were heflfd 05 we ventured 'nto our senior year. ' You have heard of only the outstanding events, but we feel that the other student activities during our school years have even more greatly benefitted the kingdom of God. Aside from preaching in various churches, Brother Moyer has been an active Sunday School superintendent and rest home leader. Brother Ash is the active assistant pastor of one of our local churches. Along the lines of Sunday School we find our students as able teachers. Brother Keise, Brother and Sister Culter, and Sister-Doris Bucher are teaching in their home churches and their pastors can testify of their wholehearted support in the ministering of the gospel. 4 The Senior class held their own class revival this year and God blessed in divers ways to the good of the kingdom. y We are sorry to leave the portals of D. B. I., but we as Seniors, are viewing the white fields of harvest and as we assemble for the last time on commencement evening our eyes will be viewing the approaching harvest and in our hearts we will be coveting your earnest prayers. These students were on fire for God and hungry to study the Word. One of the first things we learned as new students was how little we know about God's Word. At the beginning of the following term, the enrollment had dropped to nineteen students including William Lentsch and David Perkins, Jr. as new comers. The high- light of this semester and in fact the wohel year was the student revival which proved a blessing to all. This revival fed our souls and the Spirit of fellowship was in evidence greater than ever before. The school picnic at Sinclair Park resulted in a time of real Christian fellowship and without a doubt some sore muscles from a stren- uous game of volley ball. We were privileged to- be in the group ofunderclassmen at the first graduation of Dayton Bible Institute. With a time of joy but a time of sorrow realizing that next year they would not be in our midst. . September, l95l . . .. Again we entered DBI for our second year of training for the Lord. When the excitement and rush of graduation and greeting old friends passed away we counted nine of our friends and one new comer, Walter Bostick. The year 'Sl had happy moments and certainly times of concern. The highlight of the Spring term was a never-to-be-forgotten prayer meeting with the power of God coming in our midst in a special way. The Glory of the Lord so stirred our souls that it was a time of challenge and pleasant memories. About this time we were informed by the Dean and his wife that they were going to treat us to a chili supper . . . We are still looking forward to the chili supper. The picnic at Sinclair Park this year was as usual a physical and spiritual blessing. Emphasis was added to the picnic as many of the alumni were present which gave it a reunion atmosphere. l I CUNOUERURS' CLASS HISTORY During the summer months many of us were actively engaged in the Lord's work. A note of sorrow crossed our class as Sister Donna Renfrow, a member of our Fresh- man class, was called home to Glory. Later during the summer we were surprised to receive word from the school of a mid-summer rally for students and friends. The blessing and fellowship was well worth the effort made by all to attend. The year 1952 speeded upon us and we once more found ourselves entering the portals of DBI. The last year of our preparation for the work of the Lord. The re- sponsibility of achieving all we could during the last year impressed us to stoudy and work for proper training greater than in all our three years of schooling. To our sorrow we found two of our class members failing to return. However, two newcomers, Sister Dorothy Cummings and Brother,Haskel Jenkins, were aded to our class roll. The class officers for thc graduating class are: Hobart Wick, President, William Lentsch, Vice Presidentg and Annonda Savage, Secretary and Treasurer. The apex memory of our first semester is found during our Homiletic classes. Most of us as potential ministers found the dean taking us apart as preachers a piece at a time. lt has been prophesied and even proclaimed that we will be put together in time for graduation and for future servants of the Lord. I As Conquerors for Christ the class of '53 will assume its responsibility to claim the world for Christ. Our past year of school has challenged us as we have never been challenged before. All signs point to an immediate return of Jesus. We shall conquer as we pray and as you pray for us. CUNUUERORS' CLASS POE1Vl Class of '53 RETROSPECTlON S ' It all began three years ago, How time has slipped away, Hard pressed at times, we've loved each year, Each text, and every day, Revivals in our treshman year, To fill our hearts with glee- For souls' who came to Him who died, That we might all be free. We've racked our brain at each exam. We thought our teachers stern, For their insistence we should grasp, What they thought we should learn. The dean, we thought, was mad at us, We didn't know just why, But now we know he is our friend, An all around good guy. We've had our pleasures, sorrows too, A loved one crossed the bay, But only for a little while We'll meet her some glad day. Now it's time that we should part. Going on to the conquest for him, ln our trials and testings here, We have used the shield of faith to win. We have donnecl the helmet of Salvation, And with the Sword of the Spirit aflame. We are launching out to conquer, In Christ's holy and matchless name. For it truly is a battle, To lead others to Eternal life, So we are chosen in our calling As conquerors in Christ. Yes, I remember so well the different occasions-the shaky knees, the perspiring palm, the joy of giving a good recitation. Oh! the wave of gladness l feel when I think of the way God's spirit moved at D.B.I. How those prayer meetings helped when the money was gone and my clothes were few! But listenl-the best of every period came when a new truth leaped from the pages of God's wo-rd to fasten itself upon my heart. Each class was new-fresh with inspiration and so dripping with the honey of goodness to remember that I can't begin to say I grasped it all. Guess the Spirit will revive it again when I sit down and meditate, of all the texts and ideas I've absorbed. I have taken in-now I want to give out-I have been a header--let me be a doer.-And may I never lose that hunger to learn that I have found at D. B. I. OUR DAY SCHOOL Since the inception of our institute we have watched the passing months add many betterments to make a mature training center. The most outstanding branch of progression is the day sessions. The student attending day school is able to devote more time and effort to preparation for his work. He gives his all to learning then doing, which makes him a firm defender of truth when graduation comes. We sa- lute the students of day school for their determination in a world of indecision. Missionary clubs have played an important part in our practical work program. The missionary emphasis will be further perpetuated by our own alumni being represented in Venezuela. The three years that Sister Swigart and Sister Thompson attended DBI, their constant desire was to build all missionary endeavors. Their many nights in prayer praying for other missionaries will pay dividends to them while laboring in their own fields. Their zeal and fervor for the missionary work has tired many of the present students who will in turn be praying for ONR FIRST MlSSlONARlES. '- ' ww :,-g:.: .4 . Students and faculty engage in a joint, government designed to help the in- dividual to discover, clarify and work out his education interests and concerns in cooperation with and under the guidance of fellow students and teachers. The governing agency is the Student-Faculty Council. It is composed of thirteen students and four members and the Dean of the Institute ex-officio. The student members are elected by ballot in each of the three grade of class. Each class, freshman, junior, senior, shall elect a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, who shall serve their respective classes and serve as members of the Student-Faculty Council. Tl1e chaped president shall also serve on this council. The faculty members are appointed by the faculty. ' The Student-Faculty Council is empowered to organize and direct the non- academic life of D. B. I. students, in this respect it has power to make regulations, always within the ultimate authority exercised by the Board of Trustees, through the administration of the Institute. Extra curricular activities are under the guidance of this council. The Student-Faculty Council deals with infractions cf the Honor Code and recommends to the Administration measures of action and decorum to the infractor. Recommendations for measures designed to improve the Honor Code may also be submitted for Administration ratification.
