The relative green- ness of the squad combined with its lightness, seemed to offer large obstaclesg however through cooperation, we were able to put on a good show for our parents on the traditional '5Dad's Dayi' game with Milford, and pull it out of the fire with two sensational runs by Walker, thus tying the game up with a 12-12 score. Probably the game of the season of 1948-1949 will be remembered as our first game with Brunswick. We finally dropped it to our favored opponents, 9-6, although the spirit and fight of the Daycroft eleven was well- marked by all who attended. Coach Thomas' loving and faithful devotion to his team through this tough season deserves more gratitude than we would ever be able to bestow, for through his untiring devotion and his knowledge of the game, we gain much in the understanding of what teamwork means, as well as a conception of how to play football. Pete Whitaker captaincd the team from the important quarterback spot and provided our potential and neces- sary passing spark. Football is important to Daycroft for both the physical and mental attributes which it offers. sensational runs by Walker . .
