The theme of the 1985 yearbook is Games Panthers Play”, so its only fitting that we give you a chance to play the “Panther's Game”. On the following two pages is an original game for your enjoyment . . . and the rules are very simple. Each player begins in the block marked “start” (simple already right??) Spin the spinner and follow the instructions on the block that you land on. The object of the game is to collect a total of 200 points over your four years of high school. Certain classes are worth points and so are certain events, while other events cause you to lose a turn or be sent to the principal’s office. Any time you might land on an English class, you slide back a whole year, and if you land on English 4 ,.. you slide all the way back to English 1! Once you have completed all four years and reached the Final Exams” block, you then must have accumulated 200 points or you must repeat your Junior and Senior year until you do collect enough points. If you do reach the Final Exams block and have 200 points, then you may go on to graduation and win the game! Also, the black squares are study halls” on which you get to remain uneffected until your next turn. Enjoy the “Panther's Game and maybe you’ll be successful in your route to Graduation!! % STOP! FINAL EXAMS!!! Do nol go any further it you haven't obtained 200 points! If you have 200 then go on it not, then return here to get more points!! A swimming pool came into sight at the city park, but a complete vision of it is still a while off. Concerts from Ratt. to Sammy Hagar. to REO Speedwa- gon kept everyone busy at night, aside from the monthly dances and ball games We were entertained at the movies by Purple Rain , Starman , Beverly Hills Cop , and Dune . io During 84-85, Radio was rockin' with Hall and Oates, Bryan Adams, Foreigner, Wham!, Pat Benetar, Prince and Sheila E.; and videos of the hottest hits were easy to find on almost any channel. When all of this wasn’t keeping us busy — we were watching Dallas , The Cosby Show”, Cheers , or “The A-Team” on primetime. During the days we sat home, we watched “Days of Our Lives” or The People’s Court”. If all this was going on, then how could we get so bored?? Oh well ... with all the changes still in store for Dawson, it should only get better. Not many schools are lucky enough to have an asset like the one we have. Many students in other schools are left to fend themselves when it comes to making important decisions, especially during their very important Junior and Senior years. At Dawson Springs we have someone who cares about the decisions we have to make and who works very hard to insure that we do what is best for us. Shelby Caudill is a friend to all the students She is involved in many other as- pects of our school system too. When most of the students come to her during the Senior year, (undecided and worried) Shelby Caudill calmly discusses the prospects of “life after high school” and she always finds the perfect solu- tion for our problems. With great appreciation and respect, the annual staff is proud to dedi- cate this 1985 Panther Yearbook to you. Shelby Caudill! These disjointed memories are carried around in our heads, recorded on scraps of paper, stuffed into lockers, and brought together to be shared by the staff. Slowly an idea begins to bloom; a theme appears; the pieces start to fit together. By mid-January, the puzzle is virtually completed Only one piece remains to be added — we leave that to you. Add what you will; complete a puzzle that will take on your identity as well as ours. TRU 1PETS Front Julie J nston. Middle Sammy Duncan. Stev Stobaugh. Edward Adcock. We have had a wide variety of experiences at that. The 4th grade trip to Frankfort, and our 5th and 6th grade plays in Mrs. Napier’s class were some of our highlights from grade school. Our junior high years will be hard to forget too . from Mr Adam's stories to Mrs. O'Bryan’s absence while she was pregnant. Then finally we were Freshmen with “real” classes like Algebra. 9th grade science and- oh no- typing! We also became more involved with our school We no longer had room mothers to do everything for us. We took on Fall Festivals, money making projects and Prom on our own well not entirely, we had our dedicated and helpful sponsors: Mrs Bailey and Mrs. Walker Now. read through this section of Senior memories, for this was our year 80 MOST ATHLETIC MOST TALENTED MOST SCHOOL SPIRIT Diana Bowles Mike Lovell Kathy Johnson Jett McMillen QUIETEST Kevin Poole Lon Johnston CUTEST Beth Williamson Ross Workman Julie Gillespie David Zaparanick Lisa Calvert Jett McKnight 83 Did we really look like this?? As you can tell by the top two pictures, we haven't changed much. These pictures were taken when we were in the ninth grade and elementary school. Our class has many unique qualities . we will be the largest class to graduate to date, as well as being the first class to complete our four years of school in the new building. We also were one of the highest ranked academically. Antics ranging from overflowing foun- tains, glitter fights, centerpieces in the showers (whoops!), scaffold tricks, and even a strip tease made the work fun. We got it all done though. With a lot of hard workers — names too numerous to men- tion — and a lot of help from our spon- sors, our prom turned out wonderfully. 9 92 Pam Page Betty Phillips Billy Phillips Kevin Pool Lisa Wilson Ross Workman Darren Yarbrough David Zaparanick 93 - v r' HOW TO PLAY: The baby pictures of the class of 1985 are divided up into two crossword puzzles. AND MISS DSHS This year's larger than usual Senior class meant a harder decision for the faculty to make concerning Mr and Miss DSHS and Citizenship Mike Lovell and Pam Page were chosen as Mr and Miss DSHS For the title of Mr and Miss Citizenship there was a two-way tie between Mike Williamson and Darren Yarbrough and Cynthia Copeland and Mary Beth Shelton This two-way tie was a first here at DSHS. but with so many worthy students, it seemed proper Mike Lovell is a varsity basketball player, president of the Beta club and Senior class president Pam Page is co- captam of the varsity cheerleaders, secretary of the Beta club and is in the Flag corps Both students were selected to be m the Senior Who's Who and are very appropriate for the titles of Mr and Miss DSHS Mike Williamson is a class officer, is in the Beta club, and was a Governor’s Scholar Darren Yarbrough is very involved with his church's activities, is a varsity basketball player, and was a Governor's Scholar Cynthia Copeland is on the Yearbook staff, is in the Beta club, is the accompanist for the school choir, and is very involved with her church's activities All four of these students were selected for Senior's Who's Who and fit the bill of Mr and Miss Citizenship very well % MR. The above students are all those who were eligible at the end of the first semes- ter of this year. The class of '85 is known for its outstanding academic achievements, and its having 21 honor students is quite a feat. 38% of this year's Seniors have maintained a grade point average above 3.50. Some of these students have also accomplished some other honors. Troy Cornette was voted as County Beta Club President, and Mike Williamson was county Beta Club Vice-President Mike also competed in Murray State’s Golden 100 program. Five of the students attended the Governor’s Schol- ar program. 102 f GOVERNOR’S SCHOLAR PROGRAM During the month of July, 1984. several of the students and a member of the D.S.H.S. faculty were given the opportunity to participate in the Governor's Scholars Program. The class of '85 had 18 members eligible for the program which consists of five weeks of college-type life. Darren Yarbrough. Teresa Hamby, and Jeff McMillen attended Centre College at Danville. Ky. Donna Dame and Michael Williamson attended Eastern Ky. University, where Mrs. Johnston was chosen to be a member of the faculty. The high number of students who attended was quite outstanding, since many schools four or five times the size of D.S.H.S. sometimes only got to send 1 or 2 students. All students attended classes in their major. Teresa. Darren, and Mike majored in math; Donna, in Literature; Jeff, in Fine Arts: and Lori and Julie Johnston attended classes on Language. Mrs. Johnston was co-ordinator of residental life and recreation. The faculty at the 2 colleges was among the best teachers in the state, including many from the top universities. D.S.H.S. is lucky and should be proud to have a teacher included in this group 103 SENIOR ENQUIRER EDITOR Jeff McMillen REPORTERS Donna Dame, Cynthia Copeland LOCAL GIRL IS “CHICKEN WOMAN” FINALLY REVEALED! These unre- touched never before seen photos reveal positively that Kim Hulsey is the one and only Chicken Woman”, the feathered crusader who strives to protect the semi- innocent. fairly truthful, and the sort of helpless. Ms. Hulsey escaped and swore to use her new identity as Chicken Woman to fight for whatever she wanted to (whenever she wanted to). WHERE’S MR. BUZZARD WHEN YOU NEED HIM? FACULTY MEMBER REVEALS WIFE AND FAMILY THAT HE’S HIDDEN FOR YEARS. story by McMillen Glenn Leckie revealed yesterday that he has a family which he's kept hidden for 10 years. It seems as though Mr Leckie was actually married to Carol Beshear. and that they had two children (G.L. Jr. Glenda Jean) who have been attending D.S.H.S. (under assumed names) This reporter suspected such a scandal when Mr Leckie got a yellow flower on flower day. However, soon after Mr Leckie’s announcement, he told the world that he and she were through and that she was now leading a happier life as Mrs. Jeff Cunningham. Custody of the children is pending, though a public auction for the two is a possibility. 105 WHY IS THIS GIRL SMILING? SeePage8 MONSTER DISCOVERED IN D.S.H.S. Carol is believed to be possessed by the spirit of Rashish Abdul Gu- zuntike (a man who believed cucumbers would one day run the government). Some political experts believe that Carol is also backing the campaign of McKnight and Phillips (who have been seen using her cult language, see oppo- site pages photos). 106 D.S.H.S.
