O E-ACT PLAYS The Philans Dramatic Society's main achievement for the year was the presentation of three one-act plays in Oct ober. The plays were well received this year as they have been in the past. RANTIC SPRING? - a farce A group of teen-agers out for a picnic in the country are beset by personal rivalries. ants, and finally a drenching rain storm, which brings this play to a rous- ing climax. The picnickers were Jack Beres, Jewell Brumfield, Grace Schultz, Ann Lawrence, Darrell Spen- cer, and Bob Heuerman. THE F LATTERING WORD - a comedy The plot of The Flattering Word centered around a conservative clergyman who would have nothing at all to do with the theater, and a noted actor, an old friend of the pastor'swifewho finally convinced all concerned of the merits of the theater. The cast included Kim Potter, Marylin Reynolds, Ralph Granner, Wilma Tietz, and Sharon Ulich. POUR MADDALENAU- - a fantasy Pierrot and Pierrette, make-believe lovers in a make- believe land, long to visit the world of reality. In the real world, they find only hardship and heart-break and are happy once more only when they retum to their land of fantasy. PHILAN S DRAMATIC SOCIETY The Philans Dramatic Society is the largest coed club in the school. The Philans concentrate principally on act- ing and play production. Each fall they produce three one-act plays and during the year also take part in the National Education Week program and the Christmas Pageant. Through actual experience and practice, the Philan members learn the fundamentals of acting, make-up, and staging under the direction of their advisor, Miss Marjorie Torrey. Officers for the year were as follows: President: Ernest Stenmark, Vice President: Jewell Brumfield, Secretary: Mary Ann Wilkins, Treasurer: Carolyn Hill.
