Massed Choirs and Band MR. GEORGE D. DAVIS Band Director

The Vocal Department is frying' to do its share to keep America singing. The A Cappella Choir, directed by Mr. Robert H. Wing and composed of 106 youths, is Well-known in Grand Rapids as one of the finest and largest school choirs in the city. Their singing has kept numerous beautiful melodies alive in many hearts. Wherever they sing, at U.S.O. centers, business men's clubs, churches, schools, or on the air, they light the candle of hope and faith that America must have in order to win complete victory. One of the most successful performances ever presented by the music department was the joint band and choir Annual Spring Concert, April 9. The songs that came from the hearts and lips of the joyous young singers found their Way into the very being of the large, appreciative audience. Making a delightful program still more enjoyable was the appearance of Noble Cain, celebrated composer, conductor, and critic, who led the massed choir and band in one of his newest composi- tions, Ode to America, which closed a very impressive and enjoyable concert. But that Was not the end, for the refrain continually singing in the hearts of the Davis Tech choir is: Keep fighting, keep winning, keep singing, Americal Second Choir E FRONT ROW: F, Wlgightsel, G. The Tech High Band. directed by George D. Davis, true to its tradition of splendid performance, has brought great enjoyment and inspiration to Tech students? teachers, and patrons throughout the year. , . The band has been an essential part of all the more impor- tant assemblies. At football and basketball games, it has stirred the students and teachers to greater enthusiasm. At the annual Birthday Party, to which the parents were invited, and at the Bond Drive assembly its members were a vital part of the program. Cooperating with the senior class, the band rendered choice selections at the Senior Play. Also, at the request of the senior class, the band played at the Class Day exercises and Com- mencement. An outstanding out-of-school appearance was at the Golden Gloves Tournament, where an excellent program honored the armed services. The green and White uniformed musicians of Davis Tech have also been favorites of spectators at several civic parades, including Santa Claus, the Memorial Day, the Flag Day, and the Navy Parades. To conclude a successful year, the band was graciously received at the annual Band and Choir Concert by the stu- dents, parents, and music lovers of Grand Rapids. To close this program, the band joined with the massed choirs and under the direction of the guest artist, Noble Cain, played his latest creation, 'lOde to America. FRONT ROW: R. Kyser, R. Beuker, T.
