What! No Beacon this year? Such ci possibility faced the class of '43 when school opened last fall. But one by one the obstacles were surmounted. First, through the failure of a company to tale all the paper it ordered, it was found the staff could get the exact pre- priorities paper they desired. Covers also could be secured out of existing stocks if they were ordered early. Still another possible difficulty vanished when it was learned that new cuts could be secured if all obsolete engravings were sold to metal dealers. The last and greatest problem was the actual printing of the Beacon. As Mr. Harrison Was obliged to teach both the com- position and press classes, it was feared it might not be possible to do the printing in school. Through the coopera- tion of the senior class advisers and Mr. Harrison, a plan was Worked out by which the members of the printing class could Work Saturdays and thus preserve the tradition of printing the annual in the school shop. The 1943 staff feels greatly honored in being the first Beacon staff to receive awards. Miss Parkhurst and Mr. Smith, with the approval of Mr. Frazee, made it possible to purchase the beautiful gold pins with class funds. FIRST ROW B Groenink, organization editor, L.
