freshman history There are approximafely fwo hundred sfudenfs in fhe class of I944. You wouldn'l' fhink fhere were so many fo look af fhem, buf fhaf was fhe amounf esfimafed by Miss Bell and Mr. Wood, freshman class advisers. On fhe opening day of school, when fhe green freshmen firsl' walked fhrough 'l'he doors of Davis Tech, fhey all were very confused because 'fhey didn'f know whal' fo do firsf. Shall we gel' our programs made oul'? Shall we gef our lockers? Whaf class do I go fo firsf? These were fhe main fhoughfs enfering each and every one of fheir minds. A few days affer Thanksgiving fhere was an elecfion of class officers. If was difficull' for fhe freshmen fo vofe. A maiorify of fhem didn'f know whom fo selecl' because fhey were nof acquainfed, buf by and by fhey became infimafe friends. The resulfs of fhis elecfion were: presidenf, Foresl' Fyneweverg vice-presidenf, Beffy Nelson: secrefary, Florence Grasiewiczg freasurer, Donna Meinkeg chairman for fhe assembly, Tresa Connor, and represenfafive for fhe annual, Geraldine Czerew. Wifh fhe generous consenl' of fhe seniors, fhe freshmen had fhe privilege of selling candy every ofher Friday affer school fo increase fhe amounf in fhe freasury. This was fhe firsl' class ever fo make and sell arm bands and pennanfs, which served for fwo purposes-fo increase fhe class funds, and fo sfimulafe school spirif al' afhlefic evenfs. The inscripfions on fhem was Tech and Fighf Team, Fight For class dues, a small fee of fiffeen cenfs was payable fo fhe freasurer fo help pay fhe expenses +ha+ will arise in fheir senior year. The freshmen were allowed fo affend fhe all-school parfy, and had a good fime roller skafing and dancing. Anofher all-school parfy was held on April 4, l94l. Being liffle more experienced, fhey had even more fun al' fhis parfy. Besides fheir high school work, fhe freshman boys and girls are also inferesfed in ofher acfivifies as a means of geffing beffer acquainfed wifh fheir school and surroundings. Some organizafions fhey joined are Personalify Club, Camera Club fhe debafe feam, choir, orchesfra, band, and many ofhers. The girls may belong fo fhe Tech-Ec Club, fhe Girls' Afhlefic Associafion, and boys may belong fo fhe foofball, baseball, baskefball, frack feam, and ofhers. The freshman class is proud fo record in fheir hisfory fhe success of fwo freshman foofball players, Edward Dubiel and Walfer Gamble. Bofh of fhese boys had fhe honor of playing in almosf every one of Davis Tech's foofball games. The Class of I944 was asked fo sponsor fhe Memorial Day Program on May 29, l94l. As fhis was 'l'heir firsl' and mosf imporfanf public appearance, fhere was need of much planning and organizing. The assembly was a marked success because of fhe greal' help confribufed by Miss Bell and Mr. Wood. The freshmen hope fo become one of fhe greafesf senior classes Davis Tech has ever produced.
