ecognizi g O O H I Q spirit Terrific, marvelous, awesome! shouted freshman and sophomore spiritleaders when asked their attitude towards spiritleading. Spiritleaders felt they not only added spirit to the school, but also provided entertainment for the student body. The spiritleaders put in many hours of hard work, stated spiritleading advisor Debbie Svopa. Preparation started the previous spring when tryouts were held. Competitors were judged on performance, spirit, originality, and personality. After spiritleaders were selected they started practice right away. This practice certainly paid off when sophomore cheerleaders were awarded superior ribbons at the USA cheerleading camp at Stanford. Besides the camp competitions the freshman and sophomore spiritleaders attended the Lions SOO competrtion where Davis was named the most spirited school. - Christine Tzagarakis Iss. X. Me' We ...... Spiritleaders unite More unity between spiritleaders was noticed by their instructor since the same group of students led cheers the whole year. In past years there had always been two squads: one for football and another for basketball. The same group cheered for both sports. I've really enjoyed working with them. I think they are really talented and skilled. I would like to do more to build more pride and school spirit, said Debbie Svopa, spirit instructor.
