Ioe Plant puts one up against Central. Defensive back lim Cordeiro looks to intercept a pass from Modesto. Spartan sophomores end in Third Davis sophomores came on strong at the end of the season, outplaying each of their last opponents. After tearing apart Merced 35 - 6 the season came down to playing Downey for second place in league. The game was dominated by Davis for three of the four quarters, coming down to a two-point conversion with less than two minutes left. The conversion failed, and the Spartans were awarded third in the CCC after the 7-6 defeat. The sophomores ended the season with a winning record of 5 - 4 - 1. Coach Ierry I-louser had nothing but praise for his team. He commented that considering some of the adversities on and off the field, I thought we did very well overcoming them. Houser also was amazed by his team's approach to the game. When fired up, the team ended up losing, whereas with a low keyed attitude victories were the outcome. Most valuable and best defensive player awards went to fullback and linebacker Adrian Pollock. Best offensive player was the quarterback, Ioe Plant. Other Spartan standouts included lim Cordeiro and Ierry Wengel. Houser concluded that the team worked well together and will be exceptional in the next couple of years. - Mark Nelson 3
