1,2,3,4... every step is in perfect timing as Debbie Svopa demonstrates the graceful steps of dancing for her students. Mike Wollman: There were seventeen students in my graduating class. I see more students passing through the halls than I did in my four years of high school. Kim Dinnell: This is a well- administered school and everyone here is really independent and people mature faster out here Cthan in Nebraskal. I love the sports program and love being a coach. Eric Milliron: Ijust want to say 'I-Ii!' to my mom and dad back in Ohio. Barbara Quinn: I've been pleasantly surprised at how helpful everyone is. This is not a pretty campus, but it is a great contrast to the people! Kristine Haberling: The walls look like they belong in an insane asylum. It looks like people could bounce off of Brian Beard: Art is more than drawing, it is a creative expression. Ithink people should challenge the modes. I like the opportunity I have to paint on the walls. Debbie Herrmann: Hopefully, with our pictures in the yearbook, more kids will join ROPlRetail Sales. Lynn Block: ROPlRetail Sales students from Davis are the social leaders. Raedine Lillie: This year's students are showing a lot of interest and enthusiasm! Now, if I could just shut them. them up .... Tell us a story, Miss Haberling! OK class... Once upon a time .... Steve Butler impersonates our hero Clark Kent of the Daily Planet, Got a scoop yet?

The right stuff Besides the hundreds of new faces this year, the freshmen and the new students, there were other faces, those of the new teachers. With a shortage of teachers in the areas of science, art, English and drama, the race was on to find those with the right stuff for Davis. Principal Tim Tweedie was involved in a teacher- recruitment program for the district that took him all the way to the east coast in search of teachers. Fortunately, several teachers were found that had the right stuff. Several moved to Modesto from such places as South Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio and Northern California, providing a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles to learn about. Those selected to instruct at Davis were: Brian Beard Cartj, Lynn Block CROPD, Linda Brayton CHome Ec.J, Steve Butler CScience and Mathl, Kim Dinnell CSciencelCoachJ, Kristine Haberling CEnglishJ, Raedine Lillie CROPD, Karen Lotko CEng.lDramaD, Barbara Quinn CEng.lBus. ECU, David Rancano Clforeign Lang.J, Debbie Svopa CPhys. Ed.J, Mike Wollman CEng.J and Debbie Herrmann CROPJ. When asked if he thought these teachers had what it takes, Dr. Tweedie smiled and said, Only time will tell... - Heather Hajek iii Do you suppose Brian Beard's artistic expression is exhibited by that bow tie? No, Mike Wollman is not posing for a studly GQ magazine centerfold. He's only giving a spelling test,

1985-86 Student Council: fFront Rowl Holly Merchant, Marci Laughlin, Ken Manzoni, Ienifer Quesenberry, Mark Nelson, Amy Halley, Betsy Harmon, Laura Filippi, Kelli Crawshaw, Kate Renwick, Cwreg McKay, fBack Rowl Kiki Tzagarakis, Ellie Simi, David Hanson, Michelle Lawrence, Matt Hansen, Shane Harmon, Ed Nelson, Kathy Doyle, Carrie Cardoza, Doug Deatrick, Shelley Cushing, Mark Holmes. Melissa Bradley cleans from the inside out at the Student Council car wash. Student government recognizes I'd like to call this meeting to order. This request was heard by the 1985-86 Student Council twice a month, every month during the school year. Residing at the head table was the executive council: Mark Nelson - Presi- dent, Ienifer Quesenberry - Vice Presi- dent, Stephanie Acker - Secretary, Ierrad Burford - Treasurer, and Amy Halley - Student Director of Activities. Mr. Ousdahl was often found at the end of this table supervising each meeting. During every meeting items of importance to the school were introduced by the president for discussion by the council. Striving to keep Davis on top was one of many different goals for the student leaders. Among the many tasks the council decided to take up was the idea of promoting staffappreciation. As school began in the fall, a staff breakfast teachers was held to start off the new year. The breakfast was a great success. The staff really thought it was fantastic, commented Vice President Ienifer Quesenberry. As the year progressed, the staff members found that they each had a secret pal sending them gifts to let them know someone cared about their service to the school. Showing the staff that you know and care that they are there really makes a difference, said advisor Scott Ousdahl. The council also was effective in promoting school campus pride, giving dances, organizing the talent show, and providing a variety of assemblies. The school year was an enjoyable experience with people trying to make Davis a better place to be, commented Matthew Hansen, Senior Class Representative. - Amy Halley
