Teamwork applauded A total team effort helped boost the Spartan spirit on the varsity soccer field. The team was strong and came within a close margin of winning every game. Beyer and Merced were the boys' biggest threats. Ken Epperson played an excellent year at his defensive position, ,while Reggie Powell, Bob Crossman and Ken Manzoni also showed strong play in the back field. Offensively, Steve Jacobs and Olaf Sachau, with the help of Buzzy Combs and Pinder Basi, scored several of the goals made against opponents. Coach Dick Erler felt he had an excellent team. They listened and did their best to execute the instructions. This has been one of the best teams we have had for teamwork, stated Erler. - jennifer Warden Foreign exchange student, Olaf Sachau, gets his tender ankle wrapped by coach Dick Erler before practice.

Marsha Hoagland, Cristie Quigley, Shari Tackett, Kim Butz, KSECOND ROWJ Stacy Sweeney, Tracy Davis, Karen Christensen, Rachel Butterfield, Michelle Santos, CBACK ROWJ Heather Reeves, Stacey Friedman, jennifer Warden, Lena Langstrom, Debbie Butterfield, Dionn Martin, Dana Barton. The feeling of victory is sweet for Karen Christensen, Michelle Santos, Debbie Butterfield after their 1-0 win over Beyer. i Girls defend title, IV soccer excels Both the girls and the junior varsity soccer teams did well. The girls began their season as defending champions and were one of three teams favored to take the CCC title. The junior varsity team, under the new coaching skills of Ray Butterfield, was very strong. Despite the fact the girls had only nine returning players, they came out in full power with many new faces and skills. Downey and Beyer were both expected to give the girls some strong competition. The team had to pull together and work as one, in order for results to be produced. Marsha Hoagland, girls coach for three years, called it a year for building teamwork and perfecting skills. Hoagland ended the season with great pride in the total team effort. The girls worked hard for their successes. The junior varsity team was filled with very qualified and powerful players, Goalie Craig DeShields and defensive players Iason Priest and Lee Herrick stopped many balls from entering the net. Offensively, Darrel Wilkins, Bobby Basi, Morgan Wilson and Ieff Sowder scored numerous goals against their opponents. Coach Butterfield was impressed with the season and his players. - jennifer Warden
