Visions vs. reality September 3, 1985, was a day of dread, apprehension and excitement for 2,400 students. That day represented the start of a brand new school year and brought to close a summer filled with many different activities. Each class had some ups and downs to accompany the start of school. The freshman had a big year ahead of them at a new school with many new faces, challenges and opportunities. Unfortunately they had the label of freshmen, an embarrassment in itself. Sophomores had driver's education and driving to look forward to while an increase in homework had them worrying. juniors had American History, math, and a foreign language looming over their heads. At the same time they had their first prom to think about. And seniors...well, they had some hard classes to ponder over, but they had finally reached the top and a year of fun was ahead. As classes began on that day in September, vocabulary, theorems, dates and names became more than visions, they became reality. School, as the students all found out, was more than football games, Ski Club, and the promp it was a place where academics were strongly stressed. Although academic grades were very important, so were citizenship grades. September 12 students with at least five outstanding citizenship marks on their last semester's report card were rewarded with a brunch, consisting of cinnamon rolls and orange juice. Approximately ZOO students qualified for this special event. - Iennifer Warden

AFS broadens new horizons American Field Service started the year off right. AFS's primary goal was to broaden international understanding by allowing students to live with families of other countries. This year's officers were President Ellie Simi, Vice President Sandy Fields, Secretary Kristi Laughlin, Treasurer Marci Laughlin with the advisors being Iann Ienkinson and Marion Zoodsma. It's fun and exciting to get a group going, said Ellie Simi. She conducted one meeting a month, having one person who had traveled abroad speak at each meeting. She wanted to get more people involved and aware of foreign countries. They planned and executed many fundraisers during the year. This money supported students who wanted to travel to foreign countries and those who came here from abroad. AFS members were given the great opportunity to learn about other countries. These students are flexible and adventurous, but mainly, they have allowed their lives to be shared with people of different cultures and languages. - Kerri Coulter AFS: KFRONT ROWD Shane Kao, Mike Toyryla, Sandy Fields, Kiki Tzagarakis, Analisa Mohr, CSECOND ROWJ Marion Zoodsma, advisorg Susan Canevaro, Shari Tackett, Kristi Laughlin, Iulie Guerrini, Tera Grow, CTI-IIRD ROW?
