Dancers display diversity Dancers leaped, jumped and kicked their way through the traditional barriers of dance. New instructor Debbie Svopa challenged dance students with a mixture of jazz, ballet and modern. Using these new types of dance, dancers taught and performed for the elementary levels. Other activities included a modernljazz workshop and perform- ance at Mills College. As one of 16 schools attending, Davis was an impressive example of high school dance instruction. Dancers also broadened their ability to critique by viewing the Dance Theater of Harlem. We have had a very busy and educational year, said Debbie Svopa. Performance is the ultimate goal for students with excellent technique and choreographic skills. Dancers had several performing opportunities: the Christmas concert, a March informal concert, Fine Arts Week and the annual spring concert. Fundraisers included a successful spaghetti dinner and calendar sales. These profits aided in funding professional master classes as well as cultural field trips. - Ienifer Quesenberry

Displaying her talents at Davis, Tiffany was the only freshman cast in The Mousetrap. She portrayed Mrs. Boyle, an old, hagga rd woman. Tiffany is very strong and determined for a freshman. She was very good with remembering lines and was not afraid to try something new with her character, replied drama teacher Karen Lotko. She planned to continue her acting career, and with a very supportive family, determination and strong acting abilities, Tiffany Boucher might someday be a household name from the world of drama. Savage draws While most sophomore students are puzzled by biology and curious about driver's education, Suzy Savage contemplated her future as a successful artist. A first year art student,Suzy discovered her talent by sketching the portraits of David Bowie and Carole Lombard. I always liked to doodle, and it's something I enjoy, Suzy commented. Since her enrollment in art class, Suzy has developed her talent. She is presently working on a football player sketch and will possily do some other work for Davis. Various future dreams include enrollment in St. Martin's School of Art in England and a career as a professional artist in San Francisco or New York. - Jenifer Quesenberry Kao computes People should not be afraid of computers, because you control the computer not the other way around, stated Shane Kao, a junior who has been interested in computers since eighth grade. Shane became interested in computers during a computer literacy class, after realizing computers are much more useful than for just playing games. Shane works on the computer almost daily, knowing that whatever occupation he decides to go into will be related to the area of computers. - Robin Nahhas Strauss speaks I believe the learning I receive from competitive speech will be applied in the goals I choose for my future, stated Richard Strauss, a sophomore who has been involved in competitive speech for two years. Richard became interested in speech when he took a communications class at Roosevelt Iunior High. Freshman year Richard took a second place at a speech conference held at Cal Poly and this year has been involved in the semi-finals. According to Richard, speech can really help boost self- confidence and get one ready for the future. - Robin Nahhas SENIOR BRIEFS MARK NELSON and LICIA POPE were nominated by the faculty in the spring of 1985 to attend a leadership conference at Sacramento State College. Annesa was recommended and accepted the task. I-Ier work was printed in the paper for everyone to read. She was paid for her efforts.
