0wA,:T.'-'T THIQ NC-UYEN Many parents require their children to play a musical instrument for cultural enrichment. Inspired by his father, Thi Nguyen has turned his cultural enrichment into a genuine love. For nine years Thi has been perfecting his performance of the violin. Averaging three hours of practice per day, Thi performs with the school orchestra and takes private lessons. Thi Nguyen's goals include an audition for Iuliard School of Music this March and a bachelor ofarts degree in music. His ultimate fulfillment would be as a guest soloist for a symphony concert tour. Thi also eagerly awaits the community center as a place of cultural growth for Modesto. Who knows, Modesto's community center might host the premiere performance of a great violinist, Thi Nguyen. - Ienifer Quesenberry COREY BAYLESIS Corey Bayless has had years of art classes, three at Davis and two at his junior high school. He said he was inspired by his mother who likes to oil paint. There is a lot of competing in Corey's family. Corey and his mom argue quite a bit about who is the superior artist, he remarked. Last year Corey won money from a Modesto Bee contest. When asked what he prefers to draw, he answered, I like to draw inanimate objects. Corey has sold some of his drawings, hoping some day to become a commercial artist. - Teri Bracken
