'TH E D AV Z N Q H S Basket Ball Review HE Basket Ball season was begun with some hard practice. We have not had a team for two years, so We wanted to make this team a success. Our opening game was with Durand on the Durand fioor, Friday, November 22nd. The floor being large gave us pep and we won 24 to 14. Our first home game was with Pearl City, December 3rd. It was a real game. When the whistle blew for the end of the game the score was 17 to 17. In the extra period Pearl City made two baskets to our one, making the score 21 to 19. The following Friday night we played the Alumni. The High School proved too much for them and won 48 to 13. This game gave our team courage and we went to Pearl City winning 13 to 12. Our next home game was with Seward. This was another exciting game. It was an over-time game which ended 28 to 26 in Seward's favor. During vacation we played Durand' in a slow game which ended 22 to 9 in our favor. On January 6th we journeyed to Winslow only to come home beaten 12 to 11. We played under many disadvantages. The following week we practiced hard to get in shape for the Dakota game January 20th. It was a walk-away for our team, the score being 34 to 15. On January 25th We played the strong Pecatonica players, but were strong enough to down them, the score being 20 to 18. The following Friday night we played Orangeville in a slow game which ended 10 to 22 in our favor. In returning the game with Pecatonica we were defeated 38 to 25. On February 10th we played Dakota here. Our team was slow in start- ing, but when we got started we ran away from them, winning 23 to 11. February 27th Winslow gave us a return game. It was a good game which ended 23 to 17 in our favor. The following Tuesday night We motored to Orangeville only to be defeated 29 to 25. This was the last game before the tournament. T H ID EI DN ic ss Stephenson County Basket Ball Champions HE Stephenson County High School Athletic Association Basket Ball Tournament was held in Davis on February 24th and 25th. The teams competing in the tournament were Dakota, Orangeville, Pearl City, Winslow and Davis. The opening game was between Orangeville and Winslow, which was held Friday afternoon. It was a good game, ending 15 to 14 in favor of Orangeville. The opening game Friday evening was between Pearl City and Davis. In a thrilling game Davis won 23 to 17. The last game of the evening was Orangeville and Dakota. This was an over-time game with a score of 20 to 18 in Orangeville's favor. The last night was opened with a game between Dakota and Pearl City for third place. Pearl City won 23 to 15. Then came the big game of the tournament. The two teams reaching the finals were Orangeville and Davis. At the end of the first half the score was 6 to 5 in favor of Orangeville. Davis came back strong the last half and won 16 to 9. The cup and banner were presented, Davis receiving the cup and Orange- ville the banner.

Jason Afilerbaugh The Carnival N October 29th, 1927, the Davis High School held a glorious carnival at the I. O. O. F. Hall. This was the first time anything of this sort had been given and it surely proved a good time for every one who attended. There were many attractions, the main performance, several side shows and a number of good eats stands. A two-act comedy Jack's Wife Arrives . The characters were: Mrs. Follett, the mother ....... . . . Verna Tielkemeier Dorothy Follett, the daughter . . . . Lucile Meier Mrs. Rosalie Follett .... . Zelma DeGunther Mrs. Jack Follett .... . . Arlene Meier Phillip Hayne, a lawyer . . Elmer Lestikow Elsie, the French maid ............. Marian Mench A little negro act, consisting of singing and jokes, was put on by Kendall Bradley and Willie Brault between acts. Besides the main performance there were four side shows, Black Bottom, Double Your Money, Fish Pond, and Lincoln Park. Hamburgers, ice cream, pop and candy were sold. The first carnival staged by the Davis High School was a real success. LUCILE MEIER.
