'THE DAVHMQES 1 Utopian Literary Society - On the 13th of September, 1927, the Utopian Literary Society was organized. The purpose of this organization was to develop our literary talents and also to furnish entertainment for our sister society, The Illiniansf' We furnish entertainment every two months. The members of our society were: Helen Mench, Arlene Meier, Zelma DeGunther, Lucile Meier, Marian Mench, Kendall Bradley, Fred Tielke- meier, Elmer Lestikow, Jason Afilerbaugh, and Edwin Gunderson. The members of the Utopian Society chose Miss Bloem as their adviser, Lucile Meier as President, Elmer Lestikow as Vice President, and Zelma De- Gunther as Secretary and Treasurer. Some of the members of this society took part in the Literary Contest held at the I. O. O. F. Hall, January 26th, 1928. We sent two of these delegates to Lena to the County Contest held February 4th, 1928. Those who took part in the Davis Contest were: Helen Mench, Arlene Meier, Zelma DeGunther, Marian Mench, Kendall Bradley, and Elmer Lestikow. Marian Mench and Kendall Bradley took part in the contest at Lena. MARIAN MENCH. Illinian Literary Society On the 13th of September, the Illinian Literary Society was organized. The purpose of this organization is to develop our literary tastes and to furnish programs for the other society. The members of the society were: Alvin DeGunther, Gladys Walter, Viola Nath, Arvilla Fiene, Jake Kneubuehl, Milton Benning, Fern Meinert, Florence Horstmeier, Irma Anderson, Willie Brault, and Elmer Lapp. At the election we elected Gladys Walter president, Alvin DeGunther vice president, Elmer Lapp secretary and treasurer, and Miss Williams as our adviser. Some of the members of our society took part in the Literary Contest held at the I. O. O. F. Hall January 26th, 1928. We sent one of our con- testants, Willie Brault, to Lena to the County Contest held February 4th, 1928. Those who took part in the contest at Davis were: Gladys Walter, Fern Meinert, Florence Horstmeier, and Willie Brault, Alvin DeGunther received first place in the Essay Contest. GLADYS WALTER.

'H' H E n ae 2 N o H s Baseball T was decided this year that the High Schools of Dakota, Davis, Lena, Pearl City and Winslow form a baseball league. Each team was to play at least three games and not play one team more than once. The first three games were played at Winslow, Saturday, September 24th. The scores were: Lena 6, Dakota 25 Winslow 18, Pearl City 1, Davis 8, Lena 6. This put Winslow and Davis in first place. The second group of games were played Saturday, October 8th, at Lena. The scores were: Davis 6, Winslow 4, Lena 9, Winslow 2. This put Davis in first place, having won two games and lost none. The third group of games were played at Pearl City, Saturday, October 15th. These scores were: Lena 8, Pearl City 8, Q14 inningsbg Pearl City 2, Davis 13 Dakota 5, Pearl City 0. Winslow forfeited the game to Dakota. Davis would have won the cup if they had won this game. In playing off the tie, Pearl City defeated Lena, leaving Dakota and Davis in a tie for first place. In playing off the tie Davis lost to Dakota to 4.
