We follow old and familiar paths into the buildings, where WE MEET THE DIRECTORS, who, behind their clever disguise of sternness, have watched our activities with critical amuse- ment. And then WE MINGLE WITH OUR CLASSMATES. l ' But we must not stop hereg there are the SOCIAL and ENTERTAINING a s p e c t s of school life to observe. They are a source of good times and offer us an opportunity to develop our special aptitudes. WE FIGHT FOR FAME and WIN HONORS for our school. The excitement of con- tests still remain vivid in our memory. I ' 1 l sUcoEss 4 IS oURs. ' Huff L-f.,- wif: ,A f,-mf wal? Ff sa Sfff, fc ,lx 4 'vhlxf f ov, Y, H! rplhlf 1. 'gum ' SIL' Vip! Q After a long, hard winter, the spring sun and breezes finally caress the strol- lers. The campus is covered with couples. and the returning warmth of Old Sol en- tices everyone out-of-doors. The heanery is swamped with hungry students. and thc lawn is covered with more hungry students. The seminary, to the left, is as sedate and calm as before, hilt it seems happier and more cheerful. The birds returning from their winter sojourn fill the air with their songs while the students are afflicted with spring fever. 1 1 t t ul' I, ,,.,x Kg Winter Fan tasy. fa lnulxlllgl UP- 'l'lu' NllIlll'lllH 1-nh-1' ilu' lmilrlings in tlllil-l'l'l'lll nmmlw. uwurmlilig lo what Ilwy 1-xpe-vt to lnuppl-n Ilia! day or wllal lmppx-In-sl Ilw :lay lwforr-. It has, as usual, put on a few assemblies and the annual Girls' Dance. 'l'lu' dance was a huge success with the girls dreamily dancing by on HIS arm. Girls' day was heralded with shouts of laughter when some girl, dressed as a lomhoy, passed. The Association has added a new phase to its organization in the form of bouquets of sweet peas pinned on the lucky girl on her birthday. Home room representatives were chosen to handle all extra work. The girls around the svhool aren't the only ones to he eomplimented for their fine work. The Boys' Association has lu-en up to par, too. The fun they have had at their different assemblies has heen unlimitedl The l'resitl1-ut of each class gave a talk on manners and the correct attitude at all times-V they have had different wrestling matelu-s and inrludt-tl in this list, we must not forget the time the faculty played the Sophomores in haskethall. All this is just a portion of what they have done. Their able officers4Keith, Carl. and Dean --and also their advisors are to lu- voinplimt-nterl for their vxeellent work. u. The walls of the publication room will long echo with exasperation and excitement, so often expressed. Lockers overflowed with pictures and write-ups. and waste-paper baskets always were filled with valiant, but unsuccessful, attempts at writing. Confusion, hrain- storms, and noise always were dominant. In such an atmosphere, your 1942 D Book was brought to life. For many of you, as you turn the pages, we hope to bring into focus your happiest days as you journeyed through Davis High. If we have depicted your lighter, gayer moods, your interests, your fads, your mishaps, and vivid personalities, we have achieved our aim. There are songs of joy, of love, of praise, of patriotism, and of war. Singing has the power to stir the emotions of thousands of people, and to inspire them with hap- piness, with courage, or with peace. In every human being there is a responsive chord that vibrates at the sound of singing. Since music has such tremendous emotional power, it was applied to the lives of the stu- dents. The Davis lligh School has in its Music Department a distinct asset. During the school year of 1941- l9'l2 this department has made an outstanding record, surpassing that of any other school year. Never before have the choruses had the opportunity for such extensive public performance. There have been many out- standing events which have marked the success of the Music Departments efforts. The highlight of the year was the opera. To the melodic strains of Victor Herbert's music, the romantic comic opera, Sweethearts, was exception- ally well performed. The cast was well chosen and had the full support of a large chorus and orchestra, which added beautiful harmony to the presentation. It was presented three times: for the junior high music students, students of Davis High, and the public. f 'K -'SWt't'Iilt'ill'lS 1-1111 lim- 4111 lim' 21111111-. xilYiill'l' Cuusv and l1e1 lion 0I'Iz'RA CAST Sylvia , Danm- Pllllill l,ia111v,, , , Lille-lla' lfla1i1'4'll4' Bailwlla' , .ll'illlt'lil', ,, ,. Foruvml The whole basketball season was just a forerunner to the climaxing few seconds of the leltst' Davis-Granite game. The whole lield house went wild when Davis' winning shot went through the hoop. The fellows showed they had what it takes when they defeated Provo and Granite, the two teams that left Davis as second place winners in previous years. The team got on the beam a little late in the season, but once they got on nothing could knock them off. The first game was an easy one, and we won by a comfortable margin. The next two games were unlucky for Davis, and they gave everyone something to worry about. lint the team and the student body just couldn't be licked, aml the remainder of the games were won by dint of hard work on the part of the team, hard yelling on the part of the student body. and hard worrying on the part of the coach. Coach Millet is the man who has put up with these fellows for almost two years. lle is the man who has dinned basketball and more basketball into them for months and months, To him goes all the praise we find words for, and more. Our joy and exuberance is added to by his. The team. the coach, the rooters, and every person connected in any way with basketball agree that it excels every sport in physical training, good sportsmanship, and good wholesome fun. The sophomore teams, under the supervision of Coach Adams. did exceptionally well. going almost undefeated the entire year. They played many games all season, but they had little honor and support from the student body. Many fine players were given a chance to prove their ability at both basketball and football. They worked hard. trained inten- sively. and gained wisdom and experience. They are the future teams and will be very valuable in the next two years. The basketball team tied with Granite for second place in the Jordan district. Football liack Row llell to rightl: Coach l.infot'd. l.oris llaackc, Dick Vllhile. ,limmic Cleverly. lay Lapcuer.
