Valedictorian DWARD BARRETT has reached the highest place of honor that any high school student can attain in regard to scholarship. That is the place of valedictorian, which distinction is a result of twelve years of alert, tireless mental activityg for although the selection of an indi- vidual as valedictorian is based solely upon his high school record, this record depends a great deal upon the fundamentals learned in the lower grades. Edward has left a row of A grades on the student records of every school he has attended. He has not only become valedictorian of our school, but has also won a letter in debating, has acted as F. F. We were new to him, and he was new to us. Coach Forsberg had to work his way up to win our admiration. He had to work his way to leadership, and while he did this, he worked his way to a place of idealism in every boy's heart. Ray had the task of acquainting himself with all of the fellows with whom he was associated. For three years he worked with squads of football fellows and turned out three very fine teams of football players. The fellows respected Coach Forsberg and acquired an attitude of willing- ness to do whatever he asked. Coach, we Want you to remember this school, not just as one of the many schools, but as one that will always hold much admiration for you. In apprecia- tion for what you have done for Davis High, we wish to express, in some measure, our thanks by dedicating to you, our coach and friend, this football section of the 1933-34 D Book. Football Captain APTAIN Atkinson proved Well capable of the position and responsibility which his athletic helpers placed upon him. He played along with the other fellows, helping to cheer them on in time of defeat. Ray, admired and depended upon by a splendid group of fellow players, deserves our hearty thanks for his efficient work. THE D BooK Eighty-five lt x K Q9 5 ,Q ,, . ASEBALL hasn't received as much attention at Davis as some of the other sports, but each year our team gains ground. This year we have not been too successful, but we are just young in the baseball world. After several years of work and practice, we'll have a baseball team worthy of great honors. Just give us time! Left to right---Bob Carver, Chance Green, John Sessions, Don Beezer. OXING was not started at Davis until two years ago, and each year a few more don the gloves. In March, four of our boxers went to the A. A. U. meet held in Salt Lake, and the first night won all four bouts. They weren't so successful the second night but they left a good name for themselves down there. With a few more years' practice, we should gain recognition through our boxers.
