FIRST DIVISIO First Division is comprised of Boatswain's Mates and non-rated seamen. While underway they work long hours standing watches and performing deck evolutions. These evolutions include anchoring, mooring, receiving helos, and staging underway replenishments. In addition they perform maintenance and preservation on the main deck areas and operate and maintain the two ship's boats. Boatswain's Mates are the true sailors of the fleet in that both the jobs they do and the ceremonies they perform are steeped in tradition and have been performed in one way or another since man has been at sea. Their hours are long and often tedious. They work outside on the main decks in weather ranging from blistering heat to numbing cold. But their rewards are the successful completion of the exciting and sometimes dangerous evolutions of seamanship. During this deployment First Division distinguished themselves by winning the big race in the International Gonzo Regatta, held 'at Gonzo Station, Arabian Sea. Participating in the regatta were members of the aircraft carrier America battle group, and the Australian destroyer H.M.A.S. HOBARTH.

The GMG's operate and maintain the two 5 f54 caliber guns which are a major portion of the DAVIS armament. Together, these guns are capable of firing 65 rounds per minute. The FTG's are responsible for the upkeep and operation of the ship's MK56 and MK68 fire control systems. These complex electronic systems allow the DAVIS to lock on to surface contacts or aircraft and provide rapid and accurate gunfire. Second Division also handles all small arms on board, including pistols, rifles, shot guns, and machine guns.
