These men are the voice of the command and their jobs revolve around radio and visual communications. The radiomen provide the DAVIS with the capability of exchanging accurate, rapid and secure information with other commands anywhere in the world. In performing their duties, the radiomen of the DAVIS monitor radio circuits and message traffic 24 hours a day. They transmit, receive and process incoming and outgoing messages, and set up and operate various radio and teletype circuits. The signalmen provide visual communica- tions for the ship using three methods - flashing light, semaphore, .and flaghoist. All three methods provide rapid means of communicating effectively within the fleet. ' 'I . 'SM 'f,'f.L,,..,.,s.,....p- is ,N During the transit back to Charleston from the Med, the DAVIS served as flagship for Commander Destroyer Squadron Twenty. Radio Central and the Signal Bridge distinguished themselves by the fine communications support provided to the task unit commander.
