On November '14 Davis made a second refueling stop in Dakar, Senegal. She visited Rota, Spain from 19-20 Nov. then entered the Mediterranean. The ship' made a fuel stop' on 23 November at Cagliari, Sardinia and refueled from USNS PAWCATUCK on 25 November. Arrgying at Port Said, Egypt in the afternoon of 26 November, Davis trans ited the Suez Canal on the 27th.lAlthough the l973,Arab-Israeli War had been over for four years, many ofthe scars leftby the my yar were still visible on the lands immediately adjacent to the canal. On 7 November USS Davis arrived in Lagos Nigeria for the second of the West African port visits Davismen found the Lagos sea detail a demanding one with strong currents heavy shipping traffic and an exhausting mooring operation The ship s boats were utilized extensively and , . . 9. . LAGGS, NIGERIA l boat crews put in long hours. Ashore the American community in Lagos was very hospitable. Davis sailors were entertained at the American Embassy's U.S. Marine House and the American Ambassador hosted a cocktail party for the entire crew at his residence. Crew members also had the opportunity to mix with their counterparts in the Nigerian Navy when the Nigerianshosted cocktail parties at their Officer's and Enlisted Men's clubs. The ship reciprocated with a reception for the local diplomatic community and ship's tours. On November 9 the Davis was underway again, northbound. Relaxing at the Ambassador's residence.
