Commander Donald' H. GUNDERSON United States Navy Commanding Officer Commander GUNDERSON, a native of Fargo, North Dakota, attended the University of Wisconsin on the NROTC Program. He graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Labor Management and was commissioned an Ensign, U. S. Navy. Following assignments as Gunnery Officer, USS LEARY KDDR 8791, and Executive Officer, USS VENTURE IMSO 496j , he attended the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was then assigned as Weapons Officer, USS BENJAMIN STODDERT KDDG 221 In 1967 he was assigned to the TARTAR Surface Missile Systems Program at the Naval Ordnance Systems Command. Commander GUNDERSON returned to USS LEAR Y, now DD 879, as Executive Officer in 1969. In 1971 he was assigned to U.S. Naval Forces, Vietnam, serving in a number of Senior Advisor assignments and as Commanding Officer, CTF 235 Advisors. Commander GUNDERSON returned to the Naval Ordnance Systems Command in 1972 serving in a number of different assignments in the Fleet Support Directorate which continued following the merger with Naval Ship Systems Command, the last being Assistant Division Director, Industrial Maintenance Management Division, Naval Sea Systems Command. In the spring of 1974 he attended the Management Program for Executives at the University of Pittsburgh. Commander GUNDERSON is married to the former Joan FRANCIS of Beloit, Wisconsin. They, together with daughters Jennifer and Victoria, reside in Charleston, South Carolina.

Encompassing over 320 individual exercises and over 24,000 miles in total distance.
