'Ti 3 N mi I LT. c.w. Smith ft... ff OPERATIONS OFFICER 1 P The Operations Department is an extremely diver- sified team and is Organized into two divisions: OI division and OC division. OI division is comprised of men in the Radarman and Electronics Technician ratings. The Radai-men are responsible for the efficient operation of Combat Information Center. In Order for CIC to function properly the ship's radars, electronic counter measures and radio equipment must be in peak operating condi- tion at all times. This area of responsibility falls upon the electronics technicians. OC division is composed of the ship's radiomen, sig- nalmen, quartermasters, yeomen, personnelmen, hos- pital corpsmen, and the postal clerk. It is the radio- men's responsibility to send, receive and route all of the ship's radio traffic. The Signalmen's job is to han- dle all the ship's visual communications. The Quarter- masters work directly under the Navigator and must be completely familiar with all phases of navigation. Yeoman and personnelmen operate the ship's office which is the center of all shipboard administration.
