The DAVIS Supply Department's entire purpose is to serve the ship to the best of its ability. 'The primary function of the departmient is to furnish all the material and services which are necessary for the ship to function properly. Th1'S includes readily available repair parts for machinery, food and money for the crew, office supplies, laundry and barber shop services, and ship's store facilities. The Supply Department is sub- divided into five groups: Stores and Records,Commissary,Disbursing, Ship's Service and Stewards. The people who handle the ship's material and stock records make up the Stores Group, while food l I , LTJG. M.W. Freeland S t , FORMER DISBURSING OFFICER preparation and service is the main function of the Commissarymen. The Disbursing Section handles all ,pay and allowances for the crew and the Ship's Store and Laundry come' under the Ship's Service Group. 'The Stewards are responsible for wardroom food preparation and service and for the maintenance of officers' staterooms. The functions of the Supply Department are all important both to the material condition of the ship and the morale of the crew During the DAVIS around the world cruise the crew consumed 1302 tons of food and used over six tons of repair parts LT. j.K.
