Its primary objective is to operate maintain, and repair the main propulsimi machinery and all associated auxilary equip- ment. Additionally the Engineering Depart- ment is responsible for the repair of the Hull Structure and also provides repair services for all equipment not specifically assigned to other departments. M Division is composed of Machinis's Mapes who are responsible for the operation and maintainence of the equipment in the shipts two main engine rooms. The two -turbine main engines are capable of developing 70,000 shaft horsepower and propelling the ship at a maximum speed of OVC! 33 knots. B Division is composed of Boilermen who are responsible for the operation and main. tenance of the ships four 1200 psi boilers and all equipment located in the two fire. rooms. During the cruise the DAVIS boilers burned over 3,663,000 gallons 'of Navy Special Fuel Oil, and the ship steamed over 50,000 miles. , R Division is composed of Eliectrician's Mates, Interior Communication Electricians, Enginemen, Machinist's Mates, Machinery Repairmen, Shipfitters, and Damage Control- men. R Division is divided into gangs which provide repair services within their specialty and capability. During the cruise the ship was underway 76 percent of the time and shore repair facilities were limited, so R Division shouldered the majority of the ship's repair work. LTJG. c.R.
