King Tim Queen Pam What a Homecoming! The excitement started on Monday and built up all week, ending on Friday night. Monday started out with Hat Button Day. Through the rest of the week came 50’s Day, Mix and Don’t Match Day, Hobo Day. and the traditional Maroon and Gold Day on Friday. On Wednesday, a pep assembly was given by the FBLA members; it was a “Battle of the Sexes’’ between members and varsity football players. The spirits were highest during the cheerleaders pep assembly on Friday. Coronation was a little different this year and was a real big success. It was held up-town on the courthouse steps during the Fine Arts Council Fun Night. Pam Davis was crowned queen and Tim Shipley reigned as king. The football boys and coaches arrived home after the bonfire to find their yards well decorated with toilet paper. The creative work was done by the football cheerleaders and their helpers. There was the traditional ride around the square on the fire truck followed by the bonfire on the softball field at the high school. Also, taking place during the week was float work for each class and organization. Finally the big day came - FRIDAY! Something different in the parade this year was the past Senior football cheerleaders clear back from 1920. This was put together by all the cheerleaders and their sponsor, Mrs. Altheide. A tea was held after the game for the cheerleaders. The winning float belonged to the Junior Class. It was a beautiful day for a football game. The Mean Machine played the Albia Demons. Before the game Queen Pam and attendants were driven around the track and seated on the track in front of the grandstand. The Mustangs emerged victorious with a score of 26-20. After the game there was a dance held in the small gym. The theme was “A Place In The Sun”; with Pheonix playing the tunes. Homecoming 1979 left students with many memories. Out of her busy schedule as Homecoming Queen and football cheerleader, Pam finds time to play a solo during halftime. Homecoming 1979 Just taking a breather from being Homecoming King and Football Captain.
