Teachers Retire Miss Doris Beuter has been Davis High's guidance counselor for several years. She received her Bach- elor’s Degree at Coe College, her Master's Degree at the State University of Iowa, and has done work at the University of Colorado and Colorado State Teach- ers College. Miss Beuter has taught in a college and a junior college but she finds she likes to work: with hich school students the best. She also likes a small school because she can get acquainted with each individual student. When asked if she had any advice to the students she said that when you choose a vocation you should choose something that is the most interesting thing in your life and the thing you would like the best. Looking over the past years', she found that every day was. different but the students hadn’t changed over a thirty year period. Miss Doris Beuter Miss Lena Good While teaching in Davis County High School, I have had the pleasure of working with many fine people, including students, fellow teachers, and ad- ministrators. In my twenty-seven years of teaching, my as- signed duties have been many and varied: from eighth grade science (when the eighth grade was located in this building) to senior boys foods class, biology, and American government. One of the chief aims of teaching in any field is to encourage students to become aware of, and further develop their own potentials, socially, and scholasti- cally. Coming to the rescue when clothing of a student needed emergency repair produced many amusine; incidents, but things came out all right in the wash’’ as a usual thing. May I paraphrase a quotation to express my thoughts for the future. Let me live in a house by the side of the road, and be a friend to all”. Mr. George Williams A man whose smiling face has kept the halls of Davis High glowing was that of Mr. Williams. When asked about his teaching experiences he said, My teaching experience began in junior high where I taught arithmetic for six years. This was followed by moving up to high school mathematics for ten years. Then I went into administrative work as high school principal and superintendent for the next twenty years. Of all my experiences in teaching, mathematics has been the most enjoyable. Hie reasons for this are, it is done in the classroom and you can have a more direct and personnal contact with your students. Teaching mathematics in Davis High the past six years has been one of my most pleasant experiences. Here, I have made many friendships and have enjoyed teaching at Davis County Hic;h School very much. 8
