FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA Learn nq To Do Domf To Lerw n HIS was the twent1eth annlversary for Vocatlonal Agmculture ln Da VIQSS County Hlgh School Durmg these years 89 Future Farmers haye achleved the coveted Kentucky Farmer degree and 10 of the boys have advanced to the Amerxcan Farmer degree Thls IS more Kentucky Farm ers and more Amerlcan Farmers than any other F F A Chapter 1n the state of Kentucky It was very approprlate that we celebrated thls annl versary wxth a rather Son banquet Renewed 1nte1est was shown ln reglstered Guernsey cattle In 1939 fourteen Future Farmers owned 23 head of reg1stered Guernsey cattle For three years they were exhlblted at the Kentucky State Falr w1nn1ng top honors The war called most of these boys to the colors S1nce the war the boys have agaln become lnterested 1n Guernsey cattle These boys w1ll have Guernseys ready for the 1947 Kentucky State Fa1r Magan Brothers James Case James Slgler Walter Rafferty James Yelser Walter Berry showlng one each W1ll1am Towery Stuart Brothers and Kuegel Broth ers w1ll enter three 01 four each For the th1rd consecutlye yeal the F F A boy s of County Hlgh have had the best F F A dalry exh1b1t at the Kentucky State Fa1r Wlth first prlze honors went cash awards of thlrty tive dollars recelved by the local F F A chapter Th cash pr zes won totaled S565 00 Much credlt for the new Vocat1ona1 Bu1ld1ng goes to the Veteran pro gram Super1ntendent F T Burns and the Board of Educatlon hate erect ed one of the best YOC3tl0H3l bulldlngs 1n Western Kentucky 1n honor of our young farmers who served IH the armed SGPVICCS The plant complete w1ll total S25 000 00 Classes for both the yetex ans and the Future Ir armers w1ll be held 1n the new bu1ld1ng The nlneteenth Annual Fat Cattle Show was held November 4 1946 w1th Wllllam Jones owmng the Grand Champ1on Thxrty Future Farmers sold 90 fat Herefords IH Loulsvllle at the State Show and sale The 90 calves were sold for an average of S28 90 or close to S23 000 The top 15 calves sold for 41c per pound a record for us A record number of Herefor ds are on feed for 1947 Each year three boys have the honor of representlng D C H S 1n a state w1de lnestock Judgmg contest durlng the Kentucky State Pa1r These bovs were entered the past year Harry Brumley Jr Wllllam Clark and Beverly Hall Of the 89 Future Farmers who haye achley ed the Kentucky Farmer deffree these boys were chosen th1s Vear Wllham Clark J W Mltchell Edwln Bratcher Harry Brumley Jr Bobby Temple and Beverly Hall Royce MCCOTm1Ck w1ll make apphcatlon for the Amemcan degree Only five are selected from Kentucky each year for th1s degree. f u i I V ' ! , rv L - kk, c K l L I .
